It's been nearly 200 years since poker was invented. Why haven't men found a better excuse to hang out yet? God I especially hate Hold 'Em. 5 Card stud is fun, Hold Em is a nightmare.

That's an interesting viewpoint you have. There's almost no playability to 5 card stud, while Texas Hold'em is rife with potential.

Bridge is quite playable, though the drinking and conversation suffer.

Sheepshead!

I suspect there's one other person here who might play it.

I like 5 card better than Hold Em too.

I like PnP or tabletop wargaming better than either, but sadly, no one to play either with. The last time I played 40K was a year ago with DFK! and Kaffis and I had to drive 3 hours for that.

Second on the Sunday ride thing - getting a bunch of guys together on bikes is just fun. I have mixed group off guys, some cruisers, harleys, street and super sport riders. We'd ride until 1:30 PM, stop and grab a bite, gas up and keep riding until about 4PM then just enjoy the evening at someone's house for a BBQ. I wish I had a bike again.

UFC parties are awesome, too. It's cheap, everyone throws in $5 for the PPV.

Agreed on all of the above but for whatever reason when 4-5 dudes get together it almost is invariably for cards.

I played a bit in college. Never liked it as much as the Rook I grew up with, though, it seemed boring with fewer cards in a hand.

Americans know how to play Euchre just fine, Elessar. You just don't know the right Americans. We used to play it when we didn't have time for Sheepshead.

Some other card games I used to play in college were Whist,Spades,Hearts and Cribbage, also used to play Uno,Rook (which allows you to use a special deck of cards for multiple games), Mille Bourne (card game attempting to drive a car 1000 miles with hazards), and the occasional round of darts. We also learned some other card game from the kids in the Asian Center as well as Mahjong.

One day while playing Uno, a friend and I bastardized the Uno game with Cribbage when we played a bunch of Zero cards and jokingly referred to cribbage points in jest, and it dawned on us we could play Uno Cribbage.....

Eventually, we drew up a set of rules to play Cribbage with the Uno cards, and at one point after three hands the game was over (made it really quick!).

You're not meeting enough MidWesterners. Find some folks from Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Kansas, Iowa, etc. You'll find a lot of Euchre players that way.

Hah, I knew it was you!

(First time I played, I buried the Queen of Spades, since they told me it was the "best" card. I wanna keep it, right? Got to the end of the hand, and someone asked, where's the big lady?" Much hilarity ensued.)
