So I've been playing FF13 on PS3 because, well, it's 1 disk, and it looks better. 100 odd hours in, and my PS3 locks up, and refuses to play nice, won't read disks, reads disks for a bit then stops, blah blah blah. Maybe a bad drive, maybe the Blu-Ray lens needs cleaning (found an article on that). O' course, it's a 60GB, and waaay out of warranty. And there I was, in chapter 11...

My loving wife took it to Gamestop and traded it for the 360 version. I'm not quite caught up, but close.

I'm so pissed with Sony right now... this is something like the 4th or 5th time I've had a problem with their POS. It's not airflow, I keep it clean, it's out in the open, blah blah blah... the 360 is far more robust. Granted, I got the Elite...

360 is more robust?

I have to say, I've had both systems for years now and I'm finally starting to appreciate the PS3. Sorry you're having problems with it, though. FF13 really is a lot better on the Playstation.

I really was enjoying it on the PS3, it was really good looking. Better looking than on the 360.

My 360 has proven to be more robust. I got both within a few months of each other, have not had a single issue with the 360, nothing but bad luck with the PS3. Sucks, too, 'cause with my free time I'd been planning on playing some games I have for the PS3...

I'm actually back to playing this again on the 360. I'm in the middle of Chapter 5 at the moment. I'd really like to eventually beat this so I can send it back to gamefly. I've had it out for months now. :D

I'm in chapter 11, grinding out some CP and doing the various missions. Again. Finally pretty much caught up to where I had been.

Yup, I was pretty far in, but sent it back when I realized I hadn't played it in a couple weeks. Figure I'll pick it up on the cheap later.

Damaged,

Many 60 gigs are starting to hit their problem marks at this point. Mine has so far been okay, but I get the occasional inexplicable error.

You may have also gotten one of the few bad apples that were floating around in the early era of the PS3.

I suspect a Sony conspiracy. This is about the 5th time I've had problems with the PS3, and it's been replaced about 4 times.

My launch day, purchased at the Zero Hour Event, 360 still works.

My launch day 60 GB PS3 is a brick. Sony will replace it and keeps offering me an 80 GB unit. And I keep saying no ...

Because the 80 gig has lesser functionality.

He explained it to me in chat.

I was kinda hoping my 60GB wouldn't have depreciated so much in value. I was hoping to sell it for a goodly amount, buy a cheapy PS3 and have some cash in my pocket. Now that I have a good computer, I use it for PS2 game emulation.

Aside from irrelevant backwards compat (see: pc), why do you keep a useless system around?

In case a Sony representative ever visits him, he can beat them with it.

Shuyung is wise.

Warranty firm SquareTrade finds failure rates for consoles: 23.7% for 360, 10% for PS3, 2.7% for Wii

Game Informer magazine's more informal survey resulted in a 51% failure rate for the 360 (with 41% of replacement consoles failing again), a 10.6% failure rate for the PS3, and that 6.8% of Wiis went flaccid.

For my own anecdotal experiences, my launch-day 360 red-ringed, and my 60GB PS3 is still cruising.

Eh, I'm not talking about failure rates. I'm talking about the replacement policy. I get everyone thinks the 360 fails an inordinate amount of time. That's fine. I just don't want an 80gig PS3.

Yeah! Who wants 20 extra gigs! Nobody needs them!
