LOL, Caleria. Yes, I am good for the good price (juuuuust barely). And my old 3G's battery seems to have decided to start circling the drain today...

Guess this means I may try my luck at an Apple Store next week...

FedEx reporting that I should have mine some time today at or before 3pm. Exciting.

UPS tried to deliver mine, but nobody was there to sign for it. Guess I'll have to go by the UPS office and pick it up.

Yeah.. I'm hoping that my roommate will be awake to sign for my delivery. He works graves and usually doesn't get up until 4-5, but I asked him to make an exception today. Otherwise, I'll be a sad panda until tomorrow.

That happened to my coworker here...FedEx tried to deliver to his apartment complex, but there was no one in the rental office, so he went home at lunch to pick it up and found nothing but a sad slip of paper on his door.

Roomie got it, I drove home and back. Now sitting at work syncing my old phone with my grubby hands all over the new one.

I literally can't distinguish single pixels on this display.

Gah, didn't make it to the UPS office. Gonna have to wait until tomorrow to get mine. Someone should be here to sign for it, tho. Still, it's just frustrating. I coulda had mine today. :(

Just drove by my nearest Apple Store location and the line was, of course, hella long. Too long for me, I have to go work a 16 hour shift in 8 hours =P

Supposedly, Best Buy, Radio Shack, and Walmart are also supposed to have iPhone 4's in stock today...and all are very close to the Apple store location I just checked out (and an AT&T store, too). Best Buy was out, they were mobbed with people who had plunked down $50 for preorders, and not all of them were guaranteed a phone. Walmart was deserted, and nobody seemed to know they were supposed to have the thing.

I'll be slammed with work when the next round goes out, but the 3rd round I'll be on vacation...I may try then.

iPhone 4 loses reception when you touch the metal band...or not?

Anybody seeing these issues?

Only when I hold it in my left hand.

Running speed test benchmarks, though, it would seem to be a purely aesthetic issue, just like Apple claims.

Test 1, No hands:
3G - 1400Kbits/s Down, 305Kbits/s Up
Wifi - 3600Kbits/s Down, 480Kbits/s Up

Test 2, Holding:
3G - 1557Kbits/s Down, 225Kbits/s Up
Wifi - 4200Kbits/s Down, 567Kbits/s Up

I know my sample sizes aren't very large, but if there was a problem I would think it'd be obvious immediately.

My assistant is going to be very happy to hear that...he has the same problem. Five bars in his right hand, slowly ticking down to nothing in his left. It's not as prevalent when I tried it. Bizarre.

According to the radio dj this morning, there were over 1000 people already in one in front of the mall that houses the local Apple store, at 6:00 a.m.

Amusing, I will wait a few weeks for the true beta testers to get the bugs known and the store shelves to be restocked, and no line.

Fix what? A graphical glitch?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this phone.

My understanding is it's not simply a graphical glitch; for folks being affected the lack of signal strength will stop the phone making calls.

First, Apple has issued an official statement, with which I completely agree.

"Gripping any phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas. This is a fact of life for every wireless phone," Apple said. "If you ever experience this on your Phone 4, avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases."

If I hold the phone in a slightly sweaty left hand, with my fingers covering the three black lines on the phone's edge and the bottom left corner in my palm, signal strength is somewhat reduced. If I had to pick a number out of the air, I'd say it's by 3 to 5 decibels per milliwatt (dBm). Feel free to correct me if you have the appropriate lab equipment. The hand involved has to be a little sweaty to encourage conductivity, or the trick might not work.

This doesn't have any effect on connecting voice calls in areas with a strong signal, but it can make the difference between connecting and not if you're already in a fringe signal area.

Apparently, the problem does not affect anyone who is using a case with their iPhone. Not sure how many people are NOT going to use a case on such an expensive phone that has glass on the front AND back. So, I'm not sure what the big deal is, honestly. Been using a case on mine since I got it, and have had no issues at all.

Hell, Apple was even handing out free cases to people standing in line at many of their stores.

Yeah, I ended up juggling my first iPhone a time or two, so I've had it ... then my 3G, and then my 3GS cased ever since.

Yea. I dropped my 2G a few times during the 2 years I had it. Glad I had my case for it, or it woulda been in trouble, heh.

trying to update my 3g right now. If I knew they were going to release all these extra features i'd have sprung for the 3GS.
