Well, Khross you should have a good couple days here. The Tigers cannot maintain away from home and you are getting a rookie pitcher today. First game in the bigs and he has to pitch in Atlanta...poor kid.

Kirra:

Make sure you pay attention to the game. Line drives, and even lazy fly balls, hit into the stands can be very dangerous.

Comerica Park is absolutely amazing. I had only been to a ball game at the SkyDome in Toronto before, and it is like night and day how much better outdoor ball parks are compared to the fish bowl SkyDome is. Have a blast!

Bring a kid with you. Your chances of getting a ball or autograph will rise greatly.

I went to StL @ KC on the 26 and Arizona @ StL on the 28.

I hasn't been in Kauffman since the rennovation and I was only briefly in Busch 3. Very nice Stadiums, both of them, but I'll always call Kauffman my home stadium.

And the way the Diamondbacks threw away that game was almost surreal.

Wow, sounds like a fun thing to watch ... for a Cards fan!

I was at the Yankees-Dodgers game on Sunday night. The one where the Dodgers bunted three straight times, and Pettitte made errors on two of them?! You know, the one where the Dodgers' closer, Broxton, blew a 4-run lead? Yeah, that one. With a Yankees fan ... (which is a bit disingenious to say, since they're actually my second-favorite team. But, still, it was painful).

Went to the bar after work on Tuesday watched the Phils and good game glad I did. Then my roomie and I talked chemistry and physics and then began to RP his 27th level demonoligist experimenting with summoning a known angel.

Utley out for 8+ weeks. Ruiz's concussion not yet improving. Polanco out. Happ's been out the whole year, Madson's still out, Durbin's out.

Some replacements have been doing ok for now, but for the long term..?

Injuries make me sad! I'm not too sure about October at this rate...

Ack, yeah, that's all gonna hurt. Dodgers are just getting healthy, about to (hopefully) go on a good run against the NL West and East between now and the break.

Man, I was looking forward to some redemption in the NLCS against the Phils again. (Of course, we'd probably end up tanking again, but one can always hope.)

It's a good thing our 3rd string catcher has been hitting pretty well in his few games, since our backup catcher has a finger in a splint now... :p

We haven't been healthy all year. I'm pretty sure you can count on one hand the number of games we played with our intended lineup. Despite this, and despite an absolutely horrific 3 week stretch through most of June we're hovering around 3-5 games out.

I had hope. The Phillies have tended to be a good second half team the last few years, September especially. If things finally went well our way healthwise, it seemed we were still posed to take #1 pretty solidly.

It's... not looking like we'll ever get that chance, though. :p

We'll see how things go though. Lots of time left. July 2nd is no time to give up on a season.

Unless you're in Baltimore, anyway...

Pics please Kirra! :D

More things you don't see every day in baesball: 3 straight walk off wins by Philadelphia against Cincinnati, all in extra innings.

It has been a very nerve-wracking series.

To make things even more unique, in this third game the Reds pitcher was starting just his 3rd MLB game of his career. He had a perfect game going into the 9th inning. Halladay gave up no runs through the 9 innings he pitched, so both pitchers essentially pitched what would normally be a shutout. Games are none too often 0-0 going into the 11th inning. Great stuff.. unless you're a Philadelphia or Cincinnati batter, anyway. :p

edit: And Lidge is going to be the death of the Phillies this year, mark my words. He should've been last year, and did absolutely horribly, but the Phillies managed to make it to the postseason despite him. This year, against a much better Braves and Mets team, we can't afford him repeating last year. :(

There are pics in the picture thread, I believe. At least, I remember seeing them somewhere.

Wow, I didn't realize it was three extra innings wins for Philly. That might go a long way to turning around a season. Still hoping for third straight NLCS between the Dodgers and Phillies, but I don't know that that's gonna happen.

Yeah apparently I need to pay attention better. :p

Follow-up to my previous post: final game in the 4-game series ended up being another 1-0 win. Not in extra innings, but still a very similar feeling where any swing of the bat can at very least tie it. Doubly remarkable (read as: crazy lucky) since the Reds have the #1 rank in the NL in like 3/4 of offensive categories.

I don't know that I should feel good about the team given that we got only 2 runs in the last 20 innings, but momentum seems to be positive now so I'll not say anything to jinx it.

In other news, I went to a minor league game this past weekend, and I present to you the single worst promo uniforms to grace a MLB-sanctioned team: http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/gen/ ... 09810.html

My eyes! What on earth were they thinking? Hopefully, the club made a boat-load off of the sponsor.

I'm sure I could find a YouTube link to this, but that would just depress me more.

Basically, the Dodgers lost another game that they had in the bag. Only this time, it was not to the Yankees, or the Cardinals, but, to the Giants. And, it started when the starting pitcher, Clayton Kershaw, plunked a .286 hitter in apparent retaliation for the Giants pitching at our guys. Kershaw gets tossed, and so does the manager, Joe Torre, according to the rules.

So, it's a 5-4 game at this point, and luckily, that leadoff plunked batter doesn't score. So, fast forward a couple of innings to the top of the 9th. Broxton, the closer, is making it interesting. He used to do this all the time, but has gotten better recently. But tonight, gives up a leadoff single, then a walk and a sacrifice, and than an intentional base on balls.

Hitting coach and heir-apparent Don Mattingly, who's now managing in the absence of Torre, goes out to the mound to talk to Broxton. The whole infield is there, the conference is over, Mattingly turns to go and steps off the mound. James Loney - it's his bobblehead night, no less - asks Mattingly something, and Donnie B. turns and steps back on the mound, says two words, and goes back to the dugout.

SF manager Bruce Bochy goes to the umps, pointing out a rule that says that the visit ends when the manager steps off the mound. Therefore ... stepping back on to the mound triggers the "2 visits to the mound" rule, at which point the pitcher has to come out of the game.

No one is warmed up - they'd already burned the next best reliever after Kershaw hit the guy - so they bring up a warmed-over POS by the name of George Sherrill, who's done literally nothing but stink this year. He promptly gives up a 2-run double, and the lead.

****. Classic, heads-up, nitpicky managing, and one of the reasons I do love baseball, but, really, it was just maddening to watch.

Dodgers bat in the bottom of the 9th, and except for Rafael Furcal's double , pretty much rolled over. The rest of this season ain't gonna be pretty, I fear.

Not sure what happened to Sherril. By all accounts he was a pretty good pitcher the last two years.

In 2008 he had 31 saves and went to the All Star Game (for Baltimore no less). Not quite as good last year, with only 21 saves...

He has definitely sucked bad this year. I suspect he has an injury problem.
