My crew and I go out to the Irish Village have an awesome dinner, innocently flirt with our servers (we started out with a male server who at some point disappeared only to be replaced by 3 very attractive lasses who were actually from Ireland ... it was a good night), and drank a few pints of Guinness ... 5, maybe 6 altogether.

Yesterday, we're out working and neither of them can hang. One crashes out in the passenger seat and the other passes out on the back deck (him we eventually took to see the doc so he could get an IV and a shot to bring him back to normal).

So the heat index was 148-degrees and we were out on the open water in full battle rattle, that's not an excuse to be a sissy. Suck it up and push forward. Pansies I'm telling you. They need toughening up. When I was in the Corps, we could drink all night, come in still half-blitzed for morning muster and do touch and go's in the helo - up and down, up and down - until the sun went down. A few 4 or 5 foot waves and they're down for the count. WTH? ;)

Raltar sounds like he was seriously dehydrated. The IV makes sense and the shot I have no clue what it was, probably something to set his blood chemistry right.

Electrolytes would have most likely been in the IV, since lyte replacements are given either orally or over time in a drip...so no idea what the shot could have been. Possibly something for other dehydration symptoms, however, /shrug.

148 heat index and booze the night before = bad combo.

Definitely. If you have an operation in that kind of heat the next day, you shouldn't be out drinking the night before, especially in that quantity. You're lucky you didn't go down with them. That's not being a pansy; that's being stupid and suffering the consequences.

The fact that people used to drink all night and then beat the **** out of themselves the next day dehydrated has been the cause of a lot of heat injuries and some deaths over the years. It's not admirable. Next time, think about cutting the Guiness off after 1 or 2 and drinking water. They don't taste nearly as good after the first two anyhow.

You're forgetting, Tolyn, that there are Marines and then there's everyone else. ;)

I agree that it isn't the smartest thing in the world to do. The company I work for pays us a lot of money to do what we do. In return, they have every right to expect us to come to work ready to put in a full day. It would helpful if we knew what we going to be doing each day but, as that is par for the course, we should plan accordingly. However, we should not have been out as long as we were wearing all our equipment. That was a violation of our contract. Nothing will be done about it so again, we should plan accordingly.

The IV was for dehydration. According to my partner, the shot was some sort of super anti-histamine. Apparently he takes medication that makes him sensitive to sunlight. Whatever it was, it had him up and ready to go within an hour.

I still called them pansies. ;) They're my partners though and I don't want anything to happen to them. I'll monitor them better next time we get to go out.

That's more like it. Regardless of contracts and all that, and military or civilian, take care of your men.

It says "pansies," but I read "penises." I wasn't far off.
