Okay, I see one woman on this board taking offense, one stating she thought Wwen was venting, a third saying she tried...I don't see any other women on this board saying a damn thing in this thread, yet you think you are correct in your assertions that "many" of us are upset.

I see 2 taking offense, then one of those retracting and saying the understood the OP was venting. I see another going so far as to say "men are emotional retards." I see a fourth I forgot about trying to tread water and stating she believed the OP's behavior was "a guy thing," and now I see you posting as well.

Jasmy wrote:
You are the one always telling everyone else to use words correctly...yet you are throwing around 'many' with the claim that you are "counting us in your head"!

That's because I was counting in my head as to a rough estimate of how many females had posted in the thread. I was also counting in my head as to the total number of "active" female posters on the board.

Jasmy wrote:
Own your words DFK!...

I will. 3 of roughly 6 is many, proportionately. Who are the active female posters on this forum? What other active poster's screennames? Seriously, who have I forgotten. Let's set active as being, say, more than once every other day.

Posters in the thread are: Taamar, Squirrel Girl, Kirra, Ladykate, Jasmy. There's five, so who are the others? Perhaps there are some I'm not aware are female, and I'm sure we have some "non-active" members.

I'm fine with owning my words, but until they're proven incorrect I won't recant them.

Jasmy wrote:
...and don't lump us all into your little slot of dissenting females! (FYI there are more than 3-6 women posting on this board!)

What are you talking about? What "dissenting females?" Seriously, I don't understand 1) what you're getting at and 2) why you're upset.

Are you upset that I've categorized 3 of roughly 6 people as being "many" of those people?

Are you upset that I think those "many" said anything about the prejudicial statements of the OP?

I didn't include you at all in the original assessment of how many people posting agitation at the comments, because you didn't. So please clarify why you're agitated now, because I can't grasp it.

WTF is happening in this thread? I think some people need to go make their own pity party threads. :neko:

Apparently the board ate my last respone to you DFK! Doesn't matter, because I am done with you! You are nothing more than a pedantic young man (was going to say child but you are too old!!) trying to stir things up for your own amusement! Have your little bit of fun, but know this...there is a difference between forum and thread!

Webster's

Main Entry: 1many
Pronunciation: \ˈme-nē\
Function: adjective
Inflected Form(s): more \ˈmȯr\; most \ˈmōst\
Etymology: Middle English, from Old English manig; akin to Old High German manag many, Old Church Slavic mŭnogŭ much
Date: before 12th century

1 : consisting of or amounting to a large but indefinite number <worked for many years>
2 : being one of a large but indefinite number <many a man> <many another student>

One - Single
Two - Couple
Three to Five - Few
Six to a dozen - Several

My criteria on the classifications, one many will probably agree with. All that before you get to many. In no way shape or form is three many, no matter how you try to rationalize it. Many is not reliant on the total number, especially when the total number is less than twelve.

DFK! - You are still needing to win and not owning your own words. This is offensive given your own demands.

The problem with the internet, context is difficult to keep and tone is even harder to get across. I admit I expect misbehavior from DFK! and am rarely relieved I was wrong.

I'd also like to point out that the attitude of you have no right to be offended by that grates. Whether someone has a right to be offended or not doesn't really matter. They were offended, if you care, do something about it, if you don't move on. Trying to explain why someone doesn't have a right to their feelings is a griefer's tactic, nothing more.

Explain the tone, the context, explore why the reader might have taken it the wrong way, that is progress. Telling them they are stupid, and shouldn't feel that way - How would you react? What credibility would you give them?

No Michael, it is not a griefer's tactic. First, no one is claiming anyone doesn't have a right to their feelings. Telling someone they shouldn't be offended is not the same as telling them they can't be offended if they really want to.

DFK! is not misbehaving. The fact of the matter is that some people here just want to proclaim things they don't like offenseive and expect everyone to suddenly apologize for it without any thought as to whether it's really reasonable or not.

Hey, instead of pages of quotations and dictionary definitions and huge vocabulary words and dissecting people's speech and everyone turning this into a huge debate, how about:

Women of the Glade: "Hey, a few words tossed around this thread and the way a few things were said kinda hurt our feelings and we found it offensive."

Men of the Glade:"Oh, sorry about that. Didn't mean to offend you, just letting off some steam...came out the wrong way."

Women: "Oh ok. Thank you."

*GroupHug*

Yay!

This is why everyone is responding to Taamar, and not to you and Kirra, LK. You two have simply pointed out that your feelings were hurt. That's fine, and I'm sure everyone here is sympathetic. No one is arguing with you two because everyone understands you're merely expressing your feelings.

Perhaps we should have been more explicit about exactly what the issue is, because the issue is not that some of you had your feelings hurt.

Taamar, on the other hand, has tried to extend it into generalizations about the character of the glade and the behavior of the males in general and that's where the issue has arisen. We're not being cowed by typical feminist lecturing on "mysogeny".

Or should we see that you have some sort of ax to grind and like to stir s***? Because that's really all I see. You've chosen what you wish to believe in spite of evidence; you had no intention whatsoever of having a discussion, you were looking for a soapbox to grandstand.

No, that's not what happened at all. DFK! showed good evidence and reasoning as to why you were incorrect, especially that you are inventing your own meanings for "mysogeny". You haven't shown any evidence that hasn't been addressed. All you've done so far, is start discussions and then retreat from them. First you said you didn't want to discuss culture with me becuase it was irrelevant, even though it was you that decided to run with my offhand comment about the Cosby Show and start that tangent. Now you want to simply shout "End of Story!!" rahter than discuss the issue.

Do you think yopur status as a female gives you some unassailable right to proclaim sometihng offensive, and when you say end of story, no one can respond?

That's an exceedingly childish response.

Please don't take what I said out of context for your debate, thank you sir.

Hey guys, you hurt our feelings. :( Anyone like to apologize?

Define "apologize" so we can argue about it for 6 pages and quote various examples and counter-examples of "apologies".

Fair enough, but what part did you "mostly" mean? See, because when somebody does the "mostly" thing and the wink face, I take them a particular way. Perhaps it wasn't the way you meant it, but to me it was the "I'm not serious... but seriously" feel.

Interesting, as I can quote one that is far more subjective. I won't, because you don't care.

As for "owning your words," I am: by defending them. See, what's funny here is you've decided to **** on my for posting my perception. Recall, if you choose to sully yourself with factuality, that Taamar asked what my perception of the track record of the thread was. I posted that perception, without re-reading 5 pages of discussion.

Now, if Taamar had asked me to cite what happened, I'd have read back through it, noticed that by her 3rd post in the thread she was accusing the entire forum of regular and habitual misogyny, and been quite a bit more offended than I was originally, since we didn't make it off the first page without that gem.

As to Jasmy: I don't know what the **** you're talking about, but I'm a bit sick of you hurling insults where I've given none to you, particularly given that I've repeatedly asked you what it is you're bothered about, and you've continued to ignore the question.

I'd ask what was subjective about Webster's dictionary, except for my next statement.

Locked. Nothing will save this thread. It has gone on too long already and a lot of the comments belong in Hellfire and nowhere else.
