Actually it's not the Big Brother aspect of web-based mail programs I dislike, as it is the fact that none of them I have ever used (including GMail) have a spam-filter that works properly.

I used GMail for a while because "everyone was using it and said ZOMG U Have 2 TRI IT D00D!" And lo and behold -- /Monty Python singing Spam spam spam spam! No matter how many filters I set -- still more spam. And the server lag . . . ugh.

By contrast, Comcast mail on Thunderbird rarely sees spam, and I just quick delete it.

Maybe I have just had bad luck with such programs, but none I have ever used worked properly or optimally. Ever.

I don't want to get into the criticism game, because that's not why I asked the question. But just a point of interest, I think I've maybe had four pieces of spam squeak through the Gmail filter. *shrug*

I can't understand using an ISP email. Maybe it's just because I change residences so often that it would be a valid email for, at most, two years.

I use my ISP (Comcast) mailbox for one thing. Contacting my ISP. It's pretty much otherwise a non-player. I made that mistake once. Never again... not going to deal with the hassle of having to change an email address....

I have hotmail for stuff that needs an email address from me, gmail for family/friends only, and a work email that I hate wading through because 95% of the crap in there is, well, useless crap. I used to use my ISP webmail just to pay my cable bill, but somewhere along the line I lost the password, and cannot reset it since the doofuses at Cox made it a daughter account to an even older account I had with them that I also no longer have a password for.

I have a work email for work-related stuff, and a hotmail for pretty much everything else. It's the same account I've been using since highschool, haha. The other month I got an email from Hotmail saying "thanks for using Hotmail for 10 years!". My Friends and I got a kick out of that. For professional purposes my university gave us a forwarding address that we can link to another email service, so I put that one on resumes and stuff like that when "k_dawg_44" would slightly unprofessional hehe.
