The Glade 4.0

I am finding that I need a new router. I figure wireless N is the way to go over my wireless g. My only question is... Will my wii still connect after that? I have seen mixed reports and I am confused. I understand that the wii is a G device... But shouldn't it still connect at the slower speed? What about my PS3?

All the "n" routers I've seen have dual-band transceivers (both g and n) and will connect your stuff just fine.

It's like having 2 routers, for all intents and purposes.

It could be there are "n" routers that don't do dual-band though, but the ones that do have dual-band will display that they do on the box or in the literature.

Warning, don't get caught up in Taskiss' terminology regarding dual-band. Usually when routers refer to dual band, they mean wave spectrum - 2.4ghz and 5ghz transmissions. This doesn't mean b/g/n. This just transmits the same signal on different frequencies to avoid interference from other electronics.

If a router does b/g/n, it will say so specifically on the box. If it has more than one antenna, it's likely to do so. Almost all routers can transmit the different signals simultaneously, though how well each handles it should be something you check reviews for.

The PS3, 360 (slim) and Wii all have wireless-G, 2.4ghz technology. Though, you can buy an adapter for the 360 to get N-speeds. If you have a router that transmits dual band, they wont be able to connect to the 5ghz spectrum.

but I do separate the two, mostly 'cause I don't like auto-configuration setup's. My n stuff I connect at 5ghz using n speeds, the stuff that only does g I connect on 2.4, and I don't put anything on my net that doesn't do at least g - I want my stuff to do what I tell it so I know what it's doing and where it's at.

As long as the router you buy has 'mixed mode' capability, you should be fine, (assuming the Wii is standards compliant).

I ended up getting a D-Link DIR-615, is seems okay so far. I only have one device not connecting and it is on the wired connection.

Router sucked more than a porn star, returned it and got a Linksys WRT120N

the funny thing... all of the problems I was having with the DLink (and could not configure it to work around the problems even with DLink support on the phone) went away simply by plugging in the linksys router.
