Michael was basically a good guy, and his moderation style wasn't bad. I think the concerns about "ethics" are a bit overblown in this case, since the matter of the merits of government workers IS one for Hellfire. This is more a case of something looking bad than actually being bad.

That said, I think he needed to quit. Michael seemed to do better when he had 3 other mods to check him on moderating based on people getting their feelings hurt or personal offensiveness rather than the rules. With just him and Lenas, there wasn't as much of a reality check for him. I do think that's a big weakness of his; wanting to be the wise, older fellow and protect the feelings of the younger people with the "Everyone calm down" stuff. I've noticed that's common to middle-aged men; they start getting a little carried away with the "wisdom of age" thing.

Damn few wise sprouts.

I think we should get all the old farts on the board together and make them a mod team.

Micheal was fairly wise, but with age does not necessarily come wisdom.

^this

It takes someone who wants a certain amount of civility and propriety, and someone that can firmly but dispassionately impose that. It takes a firm hand and a level head

Old people generally don't care about civility and propriety, they want whatever it takes to get a bunch of whiny kids to shut up. They WILL start swinging their cane (or a 2X4) if that's what it takes. They're not as young and strong as they once were, so they feel fully justified in fighting dirty.

They don't have youngsters for friends and they don't care what others feel about them. They also tend to need to go to the bathroom often. It's a good day when they are regular. If they're not, there's hell to pay.

You mean the "get off my lawn!" approach to moderating wouldn't be a good one?? :D

That was all. Just green font. Or was it blue? Doesn't matter.

Buncha whiney *** *****. Can you imagine the tears if someone actually spanked their spoiled asses?

Mike always used blue.

(wonder how many pages a DOUBLE RAINBOW (all the way around--omg!) would have gotten him.)

I'm guessing this is a "Gran Torino"/ Clint Eastwood reference?

How obnoxious would it be if I mod-posted in this color?

That depends. How obnoxious would your modding get when I just ignored it? ;)

About as annoying as if I replied in this color.....pretty neat, huh? It's like....invisible ink or something. Heh. Totally cool. But incredibly annoying.

I hope all of you who are posting in colors that blend in to the standard skin background like that are forced to watch reruns of Teletubbies for all eternity.

It's very visible in the skin that TRG was meant to be viewed in.

Don't you know? Yellow makes some people sad...

That's abuse!

It does, actually. If you were a little older, you'd understand this.

If this were true, all old people would be wise. Unfortunately, most old people, like most of the rest of humankind, are morons. Experience can help one gain wisdom, but only if you choose to learn from it. The wrong experiences can also teach someone the wrong things and bias one in ways an inexperienced person isn't.

So Rodahn is right. Age doesn't necessarily provide wisdom.
