Noticed on dealnews.com:

JacobsParts.com via Buy.com offers the 250GB Hard Drive Module for Microsoft Xbox 360 for $56.35 with $7.99 for shipping ($0.26/GB). (Mambate via Buy.com charges a few cents more.) That's $2 under our July mention and the lowest total price we could find by $2. For comparison, that's $63 less than the best total price we could find for the Microsoft-branded drive.

That's a freaking steal, thanks to MS's massive over-valuation of their proprietary drives.

Fixed that for you.

You can always put your own hard drive into that thing. Lenas posted a link to that once or thrice.

Ah, thanks for the info. Any risk of MS detecting the drive swap and locking your live account as a modder?

No. None.

I upgraded my 20gb to a 250gb, 7200rpm drive. That's another benefit to doing it yourself, official drives are only 5400rpm.

Thanks for the heads up on this, ordered one today. I'd been looking at buying one, but kept holding off (spent my money on a Cat Genie instead). Glad I waited. Hopefully I can get a few dollars trade-in for my 120GB hdd at Gamestop.

I can't join IRC from work, and I don't spend enough time at my computer to make joining from home worthwhile.

I was just inferring that it's nice to have your contributions to our little society. You should stop by (and post) more often. =)

Awesome. I'd been thinking about buying my own drive and doing the work, but have been too lazy. This deal appeals to my laziness and frugalness! Just bought one.

Finally got my X360 back (had it sent in for an RROD, my second, shortly before I ordered the HDD) and got this installed. Gamestop gave me 24 bucks for the trade-in of my old 120GB HDD so only out 42 dollars for the upgrade in the end. Pretty good deal.

Does it come with a transfer cable? That's the only thing holding me back right now.

USB thumb sticks makes transfer cables obsolete, I think?

I don't have a USB thumb stick, or anything else relevant, which is why I ask. >_>

No, it doesn't come with one. You can buy one on the same site for like 7 bucks I think (20 normally).

Isn't there still some stuff that can't be transferred by copying, and you have to use the transfer cable (to essentially image the drive to the new one)?

No, you can use both the Move and Transfer stuff to USB Sticks/X360 Memory cards, not just HDDs.

Right, but initially, there was an issue with certain data being unable to be copied, it was "locked to the console", as it were.

Oh well, hopefully they've fixed that stupid, broken, horrible stuff now.

Well, I didn't get a Transfer cable and ended up just using a USB stick+Memory card to copy all my saves and some small DLC (and redownloaded all the big DLCs) and had 0 problem with any of the system files or content copying over. Some stuff I had to Move or Transfer (would not copy), but everything did go.

Thanks for the heads up.

I seem to have discovered that one of my friends left his memory unit here. I will ask him if I can wipe it now that he has a HD and use that to transfer my stuff.
