Wow, that's unprecedented. Hope it's done well.

Wow, that is absolutely insane. Let's hope it doesn't fail horribly.

As a longtime King and Tower fan, I am of course extremely stoked that they are finally coming together to do an adaptation . . . and of this magnitude!

However, I am not without my doubts. First, Akiva Goldsman. This is the guy who brought us Batman and Robin. I don't want him anywhere near King's opus without a strict and agonizing decontamination process. Maybe get Darabont to do some script-checking, then have William Goldman polish it off.

Then there's the casting. Clint Eastwood was the ideal Roland, but the man is well past his prime for any role in this film. (Though he'd be a hell of a director, but I'll get to that later). For the main ka-tet, I can think of only a handful of actors out there who could do the job:

Daniel Day-Lewis …. Roland Deschain
Casey Affleck …. Eddie Dean
Gina Torres …. Susannah Dean (if someone says Zoe Saldana I'm gonna slap someone)
Nathan Gamble …. Jake Chambers (the kid from The Mist)

Bring back James Cromwell as Father Callahan and we've got us a cast.

Now for the direction. I like Ron Howard, and I think he's done great films in the past (Frost/Nixon, Apollo 13, even A Beautiful Mind... but there seems to be no soul in his work. His films are technically great, and I mean that literally... the cinematography, the editing, everything seems to be great. But there is no style that I can see, at least for a project of this magnitude. Eastwood would be good. So would Del Toro. So would Paul Thomas Anderson. But Howard? He's got to convince me.

Of course, I am only speaking for myself here.

I will of course reserve hope for this project because it is one of my all-time favorite works in contemporary literature, but I am not without my doubts.

I hope to christ that he makes the ending not the dreadful horrible dreck that was foisted upon us.

Gawd I hated the last book. HATED IT.

Roland - Daniel Day-Lewis... really? Not who I would picture in that role. He looks the part now that he is older, but he lacks the "weathered" look one would expect for Roland.. and all the roles of his I can think of were somewhat sappy, even when they were supposed to be the manly hero. Roland isn't sappy.

Eddie - Denis Leary
Susannah - Gina Torres I agree

I'm indifferent on the others. But who plays Walter/Flagg?

Maybe Russel Crowe or Christian Bale for Roland. Crowe I think is the superior actor, but Bale looks the part.

Leary seems too old for Eddie.

Maybe Ian McShane for Walter.

I always thought kyle reese from the original terminator would make a good Roland.

Eddie was a former junkie, so looking older and more haggard would fit the character, despite his age.

I'd much rather have, say, Clive Owen as Roland.

I could see DDL playing Roland. Seen "There Will Be Blood"? He could pull it off I think.

I won't be surprised when I hear Josh Brolin is up for the part.

Whenever someone mentions Daniel Day-Lewis, my brain registers it as Lou Diamond Phillips.

I am then very confused.

One of these times I'll learn... maybe.

I always pictured Roland as black for some reason. Either way I can't see it working well, so much of the story was driven by the thoughts internal to Roland that I can't see it translating to film well.

Ian McShane as Roland.
