I went to Crescent Reach last night (woke up later and couldn't sleep), and got a few pieces of quest gear and almost to level 12.

For those interested, check out Disgruntled Bowab on the second floor- he gives a quick quest that rewards a nice belt, and then there's a return quest that rewards a mast with an instant click +25 poison resist.

I was gonna ask about crescent reach vs Crushbone for the 10-20'ish levels. Having never done any questing in Crescent Reach, and not been in Crushbone in.. 10 years or so.. I have no idea which one is preferable.

Crescent Reach is surely a lot more convenient.

Crescent reach was added (obviously) much later and is generally a better leveling spot than any of the original old-world zones due to updated quest rewards, etc.

I mean, I always liked Crushbone, and still level there on occasion.

It's slightly worse EXP/mob, and definitely worse drops.... But since it's an original zone, the mob's HPs are much, much lower than CR, making for faster, easier kills.

And seriously, we all need that Dragoon Dirk, Dwarven War Axe, and Shiny Brass Shield.

Hehe, I'm all for a farming trip to CB!

I was surprised at how many people were online on Trak last night. PoK was pretty hoppin' when I got out of the tutorial!

It's been a really long time, but this thread is tempting. Does one download the game nowadays or try to dig out 13 year old disks?

Ranelagh: No need to dig out disks.

Follow this link, install the station launcher, and then go to Everquest once it's installed. If you're using Vista or 7, you might want to direct the install location to something other than the default, if you're like me and still use XP the default Program Files installation should be fine.

::edit:: Here is a great FAQ on returning, installation, etc....

These points are particularly helpful for Vista/7

FWIW, I didn't have any trouble with installing or running the launcher on Win7 as long as I ran the install executable as "Administrator" and launch the app as "Administrator".

Ok, cool... I just know I see lots of people on the EQlive forums having trouble with the default install location on Vista and 7- no personal experience with it.

Do you have DX9 installed? If you don't, it's a quick fix.

Lots of people have DX10/11, but that doesn't include DX9- the two can be installed together, however.

That's what happened to me last time I did a fresh install on a new computer.

This has been a blast. And the guild bank is full of armor (and a few weapons) ready and waiting for more folks to log in!

Aye, it's been quite fun having a group again.

Rane, you might also try posting on the EQlive Support forums- they're usually quite fun.

I did a fresh download and it now works. I rolled Mcduff a shaman. Since i am only likely to have time to run one toon, is shaman a good choice for classes we'd need? I could try a warrior if it would fit better.

Midgen already has a warrior as his main. He's got a Shaman alt, but being an alt it'd be useful to have someone playing one as main; I might make a shaman alt eventually anyhow since its the only healing class even remotely appealing to me. I'm definitely making a mage as my first alt though; in fact I'll prolly do that this morning now that I think of it.

Classes we don't have any of yet to my knowledge:

Paladin
Bard
Cleric
Rogue
Berzerker
Beastlord
Necromancer
Wizard

Classes we have only as alts:
Shaman
Druid
Magician
Monk

Still with only 4 people in the guild it's not like we're swamped with any class. If you want to play a shaman, do it, it'd be great to have a healer main.

Just started a Beastlord named Krir. He's lvl 4, still in the Tutorial. Vah Shir, though I consider him Kerran for lore/rp purposes. Will try to log on again tonight to play a bit.

You know, I always liked "Vah Shir" better than "Kerran" somehow. I was sort of pissed that they blew up their homeland in EQ2. Glad to ahve you on board as well RD.

By the way I believe Rori's brother is making a Necro so our variety is ever-expanding.

Don't make class choices based on group/guild need. Play what you think will be fun. The game is a lot 'softer' now, and more flexible with group makeup.

I primarily chose the Warrior because my other "mains" all have spell books to manage, and I have grown weary of chasing down spells every few levels, especially with the accelerated rate that we level at nowadays. I wanted something low maintenance, so the Warrior was my choice.

Any class is viable and valuable to a group, so play just to have fun.

Mcduff Shaman is now 8th. Still in the tutorial dungeon. Is there any kind of banking in there? I am filled up with trade crap the vendor's won't buy and I forgot how to delete stuff.

In the main room where you get your starting tasks and spells is both a merchant to sell stuff, and a banker, right next to each other. Also nearby is an NPC {Rytan?) that if you hail him and follow to the keyword will give you a decent buff to help while fighting. Its handy for the first few levels anyway.

All three NPC are near the tunnel that leads to the bat/rat cave for the starting levels.

There's a delete box on the main inventory window, at the bottom. Click an item onto your cursor, and then click on delete with it.
