Dont let a small weight gain throw you, it's common to gain at first even while you shed inches. Go by how your clothes fit and the mirror.

Not to mention, I know my weight can change by as much as 5 pounds in the course of a single day depending on a bunch of factors.

Aye,

Especially when you first getting started with exercise. The body is going through a lot of changes. Keep at it for a while and let things settle into a routine. Make adjustments to your diet and exercise program slowly, over time, as needed. =)

I've taken dumps that made me lose over 3# before, so I'd be cautious about judging progress using small weight changes. Even though I've developed a consistent routine with a regular time during the day to weigh myself, i still fluctuate a lot based in temporary weight. But what am I telling you this for? You already know this better than I do, lol.

Yes, Screeling, I know that is amateur. Leave me alone.

Hey SG. I bet there is a "Net Change".. you just aren't seeing the results on the scale. I'm willing to bet your overall fitness is improving.. =)

Is your goal strictly weight loss? Or are you wanting to 'get in shape' ?

Yeah, what Midgen said.

When I started a weight loss program last year, we had to take measurements of stuff. Arms, chest, waist, thighs and something else. I forgot. But on the weeks where I showed little to no weight loss, I showed loss in inches in other places.

Plus, depending on water retention/intake, a person's weight can fluctuate a few pounds in a day. But, you're a doc, you know all this :)

In a nutshell, don't get discouraged :)

I agree, weight is a really poor indicator of what's going on a lot of times. I know when I first start doing exercise of any kind after a lay off, I gain weight almost immediately. Keep up the good work and keep making good food choices and you're golden!

I didn't take measurements when I started, however I noticed something interesting today. I wear a lab coat at work, and I never buttoned it up because with my old style cell phone and pager sticking out on either side it just got too tight. Today I put it on and absently buttoned it up and it was loose!

:D

I have been bad about posting my log for the past several weeks.

I am still working out 5-6 days per week, and increased my time on the eliptical to 45 minutes (going about 4 miles).

I am definately stronger and more fit. I am wearing a size smaller in everything too. With some advice on occasional diet modifications I have also lost about 8 pounds.

That's great news SG. Consistency is definitely the key, way to go!

Have you noticed any other benefits like more energy or less aches and pains?

I am definately stronger, particularly in the upper body. (Us ladies usually lack that.) Also I am jogging up the stairs, and that drives people crazy. :P

I have not posted in here in a long time. I have been keeping up with my schedule, and managed to not gain any weight over HallowThanksMas/Festivus.

Hurt my right hip muscles, so I am hoping that yesterday was the only day I need to take off.
