Thankfully shadow is getting some much needed upgrades in 3.3

A little different than my recount log showed, but still.

You can only be sure that recount is sort of accurate for the people who are actually running it. Anyone else you can pretty much guarantee that it's off, sometimes by a ton. If you're a melee the ranged dps numbers can pretty much be ignored and vice versa.

The more people that are running it the more "accurate" it is, but it'll never be as good as one of the log parsing sites.

Ah. I see.

Just wondering if my dps is on par for the level of gear that I have, and if there's improvements that I can make.

I do see that I'm a little slow to change targets at times, and maybe should have an assist macro, but I'm not sure really how other than to create an /assist Isley key. Trouble with that is we have a couple of different tanks most of the time and that's not an elegant solution. I don't want to have to change out macros every fight, and I only have so much real estate for buttons.

I use an /assist [target=focus] macro. While there are usually multiple tanks per fight, you are generally only going to be assisting one of them.

I'd be a bit hesitant in simply comparing DPS, mr. mus. It's a far trickier stat than it seems. It boils down to the people around you having as big of an effect on your DPS as you do, largely because DPS is a measure that involves time. Killing a boss in 3 minutes vs killing the same boss in 6 is going to affect your DPS, and generally speaking the faster the boss dies the higher your dps will be. It's a bit unintuitive until you actually think about it.

It should be taken into account if you're ever comparing, especially to people in top guilds. My 10 man team is generally pretty sweet -- we've done everything available to 10 mans in this game except Tribute to Insanity and the poorly implemented "use only ilvl X gear and lower" achievements. Killed Anub last week with P3 lasting under 45 seconds. DPS numbers were pretty amazing. Then two weeks ago my 25 man team consistently nearly failed to kill the heart in 002 in time to trigger hardmode, using Bloodlust and all. Our 10 man dps numbers compare favorably to top guilds. Our 25 man dps numbers are abysmal.

If you have faith in some guildmates that they're doing well, it's probably best just to see where you are in the charts on an overall basis week to week. It's worth noting if your raid is lacking any important raid buffs too. Missing out on 2 or 3 important buffs is going to have a tangible effect on your dps through no fault of your own.

Tricky stat indeed!

And an assist macro of some sort may be best if your guild does not run with some sort of main tank or main assist target thing. I should use one when I go moonkin, though it's fairly rare for me any significant amount of time to get my next target. Being ranged helps there. In a pinch I can target the tank I want to assist on my raid frames and hit my f key which accomplishes the same thing. Thorim's arena has been the only place where I figure it has made a significant difference though, and likely the cause of my guild's perennial problems with him in 25s. :(

I had to leave our raid last night after our first HM kill of 10 man Northrend Beasts. Apparently, my 10-man group got to Faction Champs.. While our other 10-man group made it to Anub'arak. Nice night.

Tip: Use levitate during the Gormok encounter.

Hooray! I got the axe from Anoob!

I can go back to combat now :)

I got it enchanted, etc went to parse it on the heroic dummy, and I was all... hmm, this DPS isn't all that great... My rot looks fine, and I'm doing it right... Hope I didn't make a mistake in taking the axe...

So, I go off to do some dailies, and the first mob I hit: Your skill at 1h axes has increased! (356).

/facepalm

LOL! I had a friend do the same thing, he actually petitioned a GM because after crunching the numbers his crit should've been MUCH higher than it was reporting. The GM's response? "Um, you think about actually training that weapon you're using there?"

Doing the quests alliance side has been pretty cool. However, that boat from Menethil to Valgarde takes ****. It's ridiculous. Zepplins >> boats.

I'm leveling up an Alli Mage with a buddy of mine from.. well, he used to be from outside WoW, anyway :p Just got into Outlands recently into quests I've never done before so it's kinda neat. Looking forward to Northrend, as I know the Alli towns there less well than I do Outlands.

My current mission otherwise, however, is to finish that damned mask achievement this year! 8 unique masks to go... when I only got 11 unique masks all of last year. I'd have to do the math but I don't think that puts the odds in my favor. We shall see. Damned masks!

The worst part is running to Horde outposts or right-clicking the Horde Flight Master out of habit. I had the same problem when I switch to Horde. Now the same problems are happening going the other way, too.

My brother did this. He was in Winterspring power leveling his mining and went to leave on the flight master...ran to the horde side and started attacking. Thankfully he was a level 80 druid and made short work of them, but what if it had been some other high level outpost that had both like that? Hilarity would have ensued.

Hey guys, I have a question about Hodir. Did some looking in other places but can't seem to get a firm answer.

My guild has cleared Ulduar so far up to the tier of Bosses with Freya, Hodir etc. We're looking to try Hodir for the first time this weekend on 10man. Is frost resistance really needed? Some say 2 pc minimum for everyone, others say none at all. Some say only for the tank etc.

To start, it might help your healers if everyone wore their two pieces they had crafted for naxx. But we started with only the MT wearing it and did fine. I think, before I quit, he was down to none. But I'm not sure.

If you understand the fight, you wont take any damage outside of the frozen blows aura for 5 seconds or whatever. If people start dying because of frost damage, you know that they aren't performing right.

Moving (even jumping) will get rid of the cold DoT just like the boss of Nexus. However, standing by a fire (created by mage NPC's) will stop it from stacking on you at all. Your damage dealers are going to want to seek out the storm cloud buff, which gives a huge damage boost.

If people pay attention, Hodir is one of the easier fights.

Short answer: Yes.

Somewhat longer answer: It depends on your healers and your DPS. The more DPS you have, the less your healers will have to heal. The shorter the fight, the less chance you'll run into running out of mana from healing the raid.

Sorta. Moving for 2 seconds will remove one stack of the buff.

Dinged 80 last night thanks for all the help here in answering my questions. Now I'm looking to firm up my UI which is still a bit haphazard. If anyone knows of a good, minimalist, clean UI let me know I'll be browsing the forums looking for one!

I like the simplicity of this:

But I like all the information and functionality of this:

Ugh, lag has been absolutely terrible since the Halloween event started. We're hearkening back to the good old days with 30s+ loot/vendor lag, frequent dc's, and all the other fun stuff.

If the event is going to do this crap, please turn it off. Thanks.

I use ReUI and it works wonderfully. That, along with Power Auras Classic, takes care of all of my raiding Hunter needs.

I use Dominos, myself. Nice ability to rearrange re-size, and customize bars. It also lets you easily key-bind things without going through menus.

I also use Opie to make rings of my less frequently used abilities- blessings, seals, etc.

Hodir in brief from a healing perspective:

Outside of Frozen Blows the fight is a joke to heal. Hodir hits moderately hard but nothing that will be impressive.

If your tank is geared appropriately to the just-reached-the-keepers level, a piece or two of frost resist on him or her will help healers a lot. During Frozen Blows the tank gets hit extremely hard by pure frost damage. This will reduce the spikiness of the damage considerably.

If tank healing is covered during Frozen Blows, the biggest problem will be raid healing during Frozen Blows. DPS/healers need to know that failing to dodge an icicle during Frozen Blows is going to put them at serious risk of death.

What is your raid's healing composition? If you have a lot of raid healers you can probably get by fine without any FR gear outside of the tank. 2 Druids will go a long way towards smoothing out Frozen Blows (i.e. the only hard part for healing), especially once they get used to the timing of it. Assign two groups to each Druid (exclude melee as Chain Heal, Circle of Healing, Wild Growth etc work great on them) as Rejuv targets. Druids start applying Rejuv 5-10 seconds before Frozen Blows to their two respective groups, throwing out a Wild Growth a few seconds after Frozen blows starts and then on cooldown after until it ends.

Very short version: organized raid healing will make Hodir reasonably easy without any FR gear (tank aside). If you are healing with 4 Paladins, a resto Shaman, and a discipline Priest it won't be so easy. :p Hrm, not unless all Paladins have Aura Mastery for badass Frost Resist Aura every Frozen Blows....
