90 minutes, 50 miles round trip. I work with a guy who drives about 4 hours and 200 miles round trip.
How often does that guy do his commute? Every couple of days?
There are people in SoCal who do that every day, for 20 or 30 years. My company asked me to do a 45-mile commute, and I said no. At a good time of the day, that trip takes 40 minutes. On a bad day ... with typical traffic (say, leaving the office at 5:30) - 90 minutes, easily. Certainly over an hour, ideally, no less.
On one of my semi-monthly trips down to an office in the same area, one time it took me
2.5 hours to go about 25 miles. Then, I went another 15 miles and hit the West Side LA traffic, and it was another hour. I think the whole trip took me 3.5 hours or something. I was livid by the time I got home. Actually, no, I was livid before I hit the second wave of traffic. I was just numb by the time I got home. All this for a freakin' paint spill where two freeways merged.
