I'm bored, so.. what is your avatar? Why did you choose it?

Oh yeah, try to link to the avatar, in case you change it, so we can see what picture you're talking about.

My avatar is Lynette Bishop from the anime Strike Witches. I chose it because I like anime, plus she's dressed like a maid, with cat ears.

Mine is chibi-Parn and Deed in the background. I choose it because when I was a ranger in EQ I felt a lot like chibi parn looks with that sword.

I won't link to it because no matter what I choose, I always circle back to it.

My avatar is a character named Naruto from his self-titled comic. Specifically ch. 505, page 8. I added color for a little definition. My avatar last week was a flashback of his father, ch. 501, pg 17.

Most of my avatars are likely to come from this manga.

Mine is Gizmo, the good Mogwai from Gremlins.

Why did I choose it? I'm not sure, really. I just...did. 'Cause he's cute and fluffy and funny.

Original EQ icon for Sense Magic, I think. Animated to blink every ~20 sec to freak people out.

It had something to do with Vlad's role as a keeper of knowledge, a tour guide, and librarian. Don't remember 100% what made me settle on this one, that was 11 years ago.

EDIT - This thread made me browse my old Glade sig collection. Might as well load one up.

Evil the Cat, from the Earthworm Jim Cartoon.
Image
Like the art style and the character.

Evil the Cat is the manifestation of evil. He rules over Planet Heck (residing elsewhere only for the hottest months). Molding Heck to his own vision of evil perfection, the planet is covered with spiked walls and precariously placed cliffs and ridges. The planet is also full of fiery pits and drops, which Evil has filled with all things evil he's found across the universe, ranging from rabid lawyers to elevator music. Evil wants to claim Jim's super suit as his own, to further conquer the galaxy and paint it more infernal.
Over the course of the cartoon series, which makes up its own particular canon, Evil is more concentrated on destroying the universe, rather than obtaining Jim's suit (even though one episode began with Evil stealing Jim's suit in an attempt to destroy him). He has been continuously thwarted by such forces as origami, the Department of Apocalyptic Affairs, and even the cartoon's budget running out. "A minor setback" is Evil's usual response to his misfortunes. He is frequently assisted, but more often annoyed, by his aide Henchrat. In spite of his status as a pure evil villain, Evil occasionally shows the behavior of a real cat, such as licking himself or playing with a ball of yarn when he's bored

I also like to lick myself and play with balls of yarn when I am bored, if you replace those two things with other things.

It's the Marvel character Daredevil. I don't remember the artist for the shot I chose, but here it is at full size.

Image

As you can see, I did some editing to both transparencize the background and fill in the portions of his staff's cable that go outside the original frame, because I like avatars that don't create a defined frame (whether explicitly, by not being transparent, or implicitly, by being visibly cropped to a square.) as an aesthetic preference.

Daredevil's one of my favorite superhero characters, and appeals to me because he represents interesting dichotomies -- he works as a lawyer in his public identity, as part of the system of law. Yet he slips into his secret identity to break the rules when they don't bend enough to see right done.

In addition, despite having no superhuman sources of strength, agility, or reflexes, he hangs with fellow heroes (on occasion; he's mostly works alone) and villains who outclass him with genuine superhuman abilities. This makes him an underdog in the same way as Batman -- he's a normal human working very hard to keep up with people beyond normal. It's a good theme that plays on the human spirit.

Daredevil is also "The Man Without Fear." I'd love to be a man without fear, even if it was in the manner in which Daredevil is -- because Daredevil does have a lot of fears, he has simply learned to suppress it and trust completely in himself and his skill, and in that way, function despite it.

And finally, he's unique among superheroes; he *does* have a superpower, but that superpower is essentially cancelled out by a flaw. He is blind, and his superpower allows him to "see." I like to joke that his superpower is to be normal. What it does, however, is cause everybody to underestimate him when he doesn't have the mask on; they assume he cannot see because he's blind. I like that he has to play blind (even though he technically is) to maintain the biggest mask he has; the assumption that despite occasionally being linked to Daredevil, he couldn't possibly *really* be Daredevil because look at what Daredevil can do, obviously he can see.

I've actually been considering changing it, though.

Volcanic lightning in the ash plume erupting from the Eyjafjallajokull Iceland volcano.

I chose it because I think it suits my posting style.

I changed it to a variation , from the same t.v. show "The Prisoner". I intend to try and keep my avatars somehow or other related to the show.

My character from Champions Online, Sledge. I chose it because I created him, and yet he incorporates a bit of Hulk (which I am a fan of) and other big brute characters I've been known for (Numbuk).

Mine is the Psychedelic frogfish, first identified in 2009. No good reason for choosing it, other than that it looks kind of freaky.

My (current) avatar is Lauren Becall. New hottie every half month.

Why? Cause a majority of posters here enjoy looking at good-looking women.

Some members of Team Canada after winning the gold medal in hockey this Olympics against Team USA. Why? Because I'm Canadian and its hockey! Duh!

The old avatar I used for the majority of my Glade "career" (and definitely the whole time I played EQ) was this little guy from Ogre Battle. I liked him because he looked kinda like a Ranger with that Ranger-only helmet that you got from a questin in Plane of Growth I think it was. Plus I dyed my armour pink when they introduced dyes into the game and didn't change it until I quit. It was my little bit of fame on the 7th Hammer server, hehe.

Bruce Lee, because he inspires me to think creatively.

I used to cycle between funny and cool avatars, but this one means something real to me....and I can still make fun of it (see sig).

That being said, my favorite "anime" is Akira. Ghost in the Shell is amazing as well.
