Very good. Some folks might not like it but I have never felt like that watching a movie before. Still have chills just thinking about it.

He wants you to throw asterisk shaped shuriken at him. You really need that explained?

Of course the word filter MAY be getting in the way of me understanding the nuances of his message.

The Morning After:

That movie, in case you are wondering, was very freaky. Grown men were screaming/cussing during the movie. I have never seen people exit a theatre so fast, and there were guys not waiting for girls to get out of the way! In the bathroom afterwards, two girls were sitting there shaking.
After we got home, Nitefox and I made an agreement not to do anything that we saw in the movie towards each other and that if we did it would be ground for divorce, haha!
Then he had to pee and got mad when I followed him into the bathroom. I was too scared to be alone.
Then I had to pee, and I got mad when he wouldn't stay in the bathroom with me!! Then we both laughed at how scared I was.
I think he was a little irritated when I accidentally stepped on his foot while we were walking down the hallway in the dark on our way to bed.
Ever had an 8mths pregnant woman stuck to your back while you are trying to walk?
Sleeping was hard to do.
I refused to turn the light off. Poor Nitefox!
I spent quite a while praying and thinking how many people would come to know Jesus if I stood outside the theater and handed out bibles or pamphlets to people coming out of that movie, hahahaha!!
I did finally go to sleep, thank God.
When I woke up I was afraid to look at my watch...but it was 6:30am and not 3 something so I was relieved even though it was still dark outside.
Then I realized I had to pee. I laid in bed for a long time, seriously contemplating just wetting the bed to avoid having to get up by myself!
The sun came up. Whew.

I can't believe a movie has scared me so much. And the funny part is, the first half of the movie I was all "pshhh! This ain't scary!"
Boy was I wrong.

Anyone else have a hard time sleeping or peeing by themselves the first night after watching this movie? :D

Hooray, I didn't lead anyone astray! I was starting to get worried with all the "pseudo-negative" reviews people were posting. However, it's just damn good!

I've never seen anything like it. At the very end people were looking around at each other like...woah.

I'd just like to point out a few fun facts about the film:

  • Director Oren Peli is an Israeli-born video game designer who had no formal film training.
  • Was made on a budget of $15k.
  • Was shot in seven days.
  • Was picked up for distribution by DreamWorks. They intended to remake it with a bigger budget and "name" actors, but the director worked into the contract a one-time screening of the film. During this screening, people began leaving the theater, and it was assumed to be a failure, until they found out that the people were leaving because they were too scared to continue watching. At that point, considerations of a remake were canned.
  • Steven Spielberg (one of DreamWorks' head honchos) was given a screener DVD of the film. Spielberg returned to DreamWorks the next day after viewing it that night with the DVD in a garbage bag because he thought the DVD was haunted. According to Spielberg, minutes after he viewed the film, his bedroom doors locked by themselves, and he could not get out without calling in a locksmith.

Hah starting to sound like the Chuck Norris meme at the end there.

Two guys here at work said it was very good and very creepy and one said he nearly walked out because it was so bad.

I downloaded a DVD rip of this which is supposed to be the 2007, original ending version. Will post impressions tomorrow probably.

I've read the synopsis of the original ending, and while I haven't seen it, I like the theatrical version better, I think.

There's also another alternate ending, but it was only shown once.

So...when have enough people seen it that we can start actually discussing details?

On a related note, if you're interested in seeing the film, I suggest going into it with as little foreknowledge as possible.

All right, now that I have some reviews by some others whom I trust... I definitely have to see this movie. My wife definitely will NOT go so I'll have to see it by myself. Maybe I'll go either tonight or tomorrow night.

I can't believe people find this movie scary. It's tepid. It's pacing is bad, its build up seen a mile away and the rest of the movie is waiting for the foregone conclusion to come.

The characters don't even seem real.

Give me House on Haunted Hill over this any day.

I just got back from seeing it. I did find it scary. I'm still a bit jittery even though I know it is stupid to be jittery over a movie.

There were two girls that were leaving the theater ahead of me, they were intently talking to each other, and then one of them stopped and turned around to me and say "Excuse me sir? You were in that movie Paranormal Activity right?"

I said I was, and then she said in this voice that sounded like barely contained terror "It said that they characters were fictitious didn't it?" When I said yes she looked incredibly releaved. I think if I would have told her that it was completely real that she would have fainted right there on the ground.

Elmo, I know we disagree on a lot of things. Not this.

Both of the non-theatrical release endings would have been loads better(but still not enough to redeem this incredibly boring movie). The theatrical ending was very yawn worthy.
