An old school Dungeons and Dragons style game mixed with a card game. It is extremely well done, I'm impressed.

Other than that... nothing. I might buy a Wii U for my son soon, so maybe that.

Shadowrun Returns, MechWarrior Online, and Solforge. Looking forward to Hex's alpha starting up soon. Hex and Solforge are digital CCGs that I've kickstarted.

On the non-video game front, though...

Malifaux is awesome. Miniatures skirmish-scale wargame. Very flavorful clashes between two "crews" of 7-10-ish models on a side in a weird-west-meets-Gothic-horror-Victorian alternate Earth setting. In the middle of a six-month process to convert the whole model line to a second edition of the rules, which just came out.

Android: Netrunner continues to impress and engross me on the customizeable card game front. With no rare chasing.

Ascension recently caught my eye as an alternative to Dominion. Not as interactive and engrossing as Netrunner, but plays more than 2 at a time.

The new Pandemic expansion, In the Lab, is pretty neat.

I play a bunch of Elder Signs because my friends like it. At least the new expansion makes losing a bigger threat. There's nothing worse than a co-op game where you always win.

X-Wing Miniatures is a great way to kill an hour or two.

Gale Force 9's new Firefly game is quite flavorful and not bad for a licensed game.

Puerto Rico is always a favorite of my group.

I love it when I can twist their arms into playing Eclipse, though (the girls in the group aren't super-keen on it, but will humor me occasionally).

Disaster Looms! requires less arm-twisting to get my hex tile space exploration in, but is way less fun and interesting when it comes to direct conflict.

Settlers of Catan is always fun.

Space Alert is the strangest board game I've ever played. And the only one that gets adrenaline pumping. It's wild. And hated by half my group as "too stressful". They're crazy. It's a good kind of stress, with hilarity ensuing.

Mice and Mystics is a fun little dungeon romp.

And I keep looking for excuses/opportunities to break out and/or learn Descent: Second Edition, A Game of Thrones: Second Edition, Spartacus, and Battlestar Galactica.

Kingdom of Loathing and Swords & Potions 2, for browser-based games. I check in with Mechwarrior Tactics on a regular basis to keep tabs on the progression. Set up a 4 Awesome vs. 4 Awesome fight. It was suitably awesome. I expect I'll buy in to a Founder pack when they announce they're getting ready to move to open beta, but I received a beta key fairly early, so I don't need the closed beta access it provides.

I started playing Smite recently. I'm having a good time with it. It's my first moba ever. Had to start off using really old Quake/UT reflexes, but it didn't take long to get a handle on what the kids these days are doing. If anybody might be interested, there's a referral program.

Waiting on the Berlin expansion for Shadowrun Returns.

Non-videogame-wise, I do FNM at my FLGS. Limited Draft format, so I can just show up and play. Occasionally someone tries to convince me to come out for Standard Constructed, but I don't have the time to put brain-power into that, so That Way Lies Madness. I'd like to put together a couple of new decks for EDH, but I have too many cards to sort through, so every time I think about it I just shake my head and go do something else.

I've played Super Dungeon Explore a number of times, but I think we're taking a hiatus until a new expansion comes out, we seem to have become bored of the current offerings. One of the guys had a chance to pick the developer's brains at GenCon, and express some concerns about a few issues we've run into. Things seem to sound like improvements are coming in Q1 2014.

I picked up 7 Wonders, and that's gone over well. I also picked up Tzolk'in: The Mayan Calendar, and while I like it, and everybody else seems to find it philosophically interesting, sessions haven't been met with a lot of excitement. Coro refuses to play Talisman, so we don't play that.

Only video games I am playing atm are WoW, Diablo 3, and SWTOR.

Otherwise I am playing

- Star Wars - Edge of the Empire Pencil & Paper RPG with a group of friends who get together at my house on friday nights.

- Castle Panic, along with it's expansion (don't think they used it in that video). The vanilla game is fun but the expansion makes it much more interesting. It adds a wizard's tower, which opens up a new deck of powerful wizard spell cards. It also introduces more varied monsters as well as boss monsters, as well as some new mechanics.

- Aye, Dark Overlord. Been playing this one with friends for over a year now and it can be quite silly, role play fun.

- Betrayal at House on the Hill. A very fun board game, especially now that it's getting close to Halloween. Essentially, every player is a character who ends up together in a haunted house. One player will betray the rest of the party and attempt to kill the other players (or have them killed, lured to their deaths, etc). There are multiple scenarios, and you never know which scenario you are playing (it's based off of which omen card was found in which room at the time of the "haunt")

There are several dozen "haunt" scenarios and it's a good idea for everyone to not have read them all beforehand (far more fun when it's a surprise). Especially so since once a player is revealed as the betrayer and the rest of the party are now the "heroes," each group is privy to information that the other doesn't know about (there is a book for the betrayer, and a book for the heroes, to read and learn what their goals are). No two haunts are the same, and many are classic horror scenarios. Turning into a werewolf, helping the crazed axe murderer catch his victims, etc.

At that point, the game becomes player vs player. The betrayer is more powerful and not hindered by any traps/bad stuff the haunted house provides (the house wants the betrayer to aid it). There are goals that the betrayer must achieve in order to win, and there are goals the heroes must achieve in order to win. And the game ends with either the one player who is the betrayer winning and everyone else losing, or the hero players winning (with the betrayer being the sole loser).

The original game came in a box that looks like this. That is out of print and difficult to find. WotC reprinted the game and incorporated errata into the rules for the game and now the box looks like this.

The latter is MUCH easier to find. I've seen it on multiple gaming store shelves, even as recently as a couple weeks ago.

Edit: My only concern, having played both versions, is that the original seemed like it was stacked more heavily in the traitor's favor (which is how it should be). I don't think the traitor has won any games since moving to the newer version. But, it could just be luck has rolled that way for us.

I've been on a Final Fantasy kick lately. I've already played through 9, 10, 10-2, 12, 13 and Final Fantasy Tactics 1.3 this year alone. Finished 7 last night and am going to move to either Dirge of Cerberus or Crisis Core next. I've also been playing some Fallout New Vegas and Shadowrun Returns and a tiny bit of Game Dev Tycoon.

Board games:

Pandemic w/expansion "On the Brink" - Love this game, even solo it rocks. Thanks to Kaffis, I will have to look more closely at the "In the Lab" expansion now.

King of Tokyo - Played for first time on Sunday at a game event ran by friends at my local game store. This game is next on my list to be picked up.

Re: Betrayal at House on the Hill - I've grown frustrated with this one as I have the original edition and I carry around two separate binders with the Survivor errata, Traitor errata, and the general errata. I loved the hell out of this game until all the rules updates. That plus I have a hard time mustering anyone for gaming nights when/if I even have the time to host a gaming night.

Thanks for the heads up on Elder Sign's expansion and making it a little more difficult. I read a lot on th BGG that the game alone ends up being too easy. This will likely be placed onto my X-mas want list.

The Cliff Notes go like this: the requirement to cure gets bumped down to 3 cards, but that's countered by the lab-work you have to do, which eats up actions, requires 2 cards of that color in addition to the 3 to finally cure it, and all lab actions have to be taken at a research station.

So, difficulty-wise, it actually balances pretty well with/without. There are a few modified roles (and if you have an early edition of the base game, this can be a "problem" as the role cards in newer editions have different backs that In the Lab matches) that get additional bonuses and/or tweaks to their original set rules.

But the lab-work is its own little game that interacts well (in both directions) with the main game, and some of the folks I've played with agree with me that it helps to mitigate the feel that you sometimes get where you kind of play Pandemic by rote.

I played the hell out of the Binding of Isaac for, like, 3 weeks straight. I'm down to either one or two achievements left to get platinum god, but they're the worst achievements in the world. :/

Binding of Isaac looks cool, but I played quite a bit of the random dungeon games back on the Sega Genesis. Coathanger abortion jokes are right up my alley, but they're just not enough to make Binding of Isaac fresh for me.

While I try to poke at other things, MechWarrior Online is about it. Even running 12 vs. 12 the matches are short and you are not committed to anything that will take hours to finish.

I'm still chipping away at my NWN persistent world server of choice, Arelith They have a new fixed level system where you just keep buying feats that is interesting. I've got another drow Matron and trying to make a go of that.

Grouse and I have been having fun with Game and Wario and Darkfall: Unholy Wars as well, though lately he has been engrossed with some super secret Minecraft Project that I'm not allowed to see until Christmas.

Offline, I've got an actual face to face Pathfinder group, playing a ranger, and I get some 40k action in on a regular basis.
