Dear Fry's Camera Lady,

My wife and I appreciate your help with choosing that Samsung TL350.

When we told you that we wanted it, with my two SDHC 8 GB card options in hand, and you bent down and unlocked the drawer and told me one was on sale, that was good information, and we couldn't have unlocked that drawer without you.

When we turned down a camera bag, I am sure we took money from your pocket, but since camera bags are like sales people - of debatable merit and easily found or replaced - we didn't want to choose the wrong one.

When you offered us the coverage plan, and I asked what it covered, and you said everything, and my wife said, 'including physical and liquid damage?' and you said, 'Yes', of course we agreed to give you more money. We're taking this to Thailand. Who knows what an elephant's dung will do to this fine camera? Who would want to find out?

However, when I asked for a packet of information, after you gave us a ticket and began to walk our camera to the registers, and you assured us that they'd give us that with our receipt, it was very comforting.

Especially when we got that packet, saw you were a liar, and turned around to cancel the purchase of that plan.

Did you still get commission on it? Did the 'attach-rate' or something get boosted for us having it for the 5 minutes it took?

Did the people who told us 'Yeah, no, it doesn't cover that...' when we told them you told us it DOES while returning it care?

Did they follow-up to make sure less savvy folks are not bilked of their rupals?

After all, you worked hard to make sure to take credit for the sale, so it's not like your name was on the receipt in two or more places... I am sure they had to work hard to discover who sold us a camera and lied to us less than 15 minutes earlier.

* P.S. - We parked next to a car with 'Squirrel Lady' license plate ornamentation. Does SquirrelGirl's mom live in CA, or did retiring from the GLA mean she had to give up the girl title? *

My daughter works in software at the Fry's in Roseville. She's complained to me about salescreeps who will say anything to make the sale, and the junk she has to put up with when customers return things because the salescreeps lied about what a product can do.

She's also complained about the quota system where they have to sell so much to keep their hours and/or job.

Fry's is not an employer that values their sales staff. you are the next kick down the line. The woman sounds like one of the salescreeps, but perhaps she turned into one because of the pressure to make the sales and the difficulty in finding a job right now.

Or maybe she just thinks lying through your teeth is okay if it gets you the commission.

1) That's part of the reason for this rant. While our company does not have a salescreep or salescreep mentality when it comes to extended service contracts (one of the benefits of being both manufacturer and primary sales point for a lot of what we make), some of our partners, especially some offices for our carrier partner, have that mentality and ethos.

2) Has she ever considered a change in employer? We have a store in Roseville... *chuckles* Worth applying if she sees an opening.

When she bent over to unlock the cabinet, did she at least have a nice ***?

She works at Fry's, Corolinth. I'm fairly certain that pretty much precludes having a nice ***.

I don't see why. Having a nice *** doesn't mean you're smart. One set of people are smart, and another set of people have nice asses. Those two sets intersect at certain points. There is another set of people who are dumb, and that set also intersects with the nice *** set, but in different places than where nice *** intersects smart.

Do I need to draw a Venn diagram?

She may have been Middle Eastern or Asian descent (her name was Sima S.).

I didn't pay attention to her ***.

I'd actually argue that a lot of sales people are toothsome even in lower-paying, low-to-no-skilled positions like Fry's.

Or maybe Sacramento has an overabundance of moderately attractive Middle Eastern/Asian people.
