It's not that rare. I've talked to people who have experienced it, and heard seminars given on it. I wouldn't call it widespread, but I would think it pretty easy to achieve.

It could also be endorphins after the pain/body stress has stopped or diminished. Hard to experience (or differentiate, I guess) endorphin sensations when you're doped up with artificially-administered narcotics or nerve blockers.

Haha, I'm not a birthing expert- but what I've read on it makes it sound like with the right set up, it should be good.

I would start by checking out Orgasmicbirth.com and reading what they have there, including mothers stories, and then look into finding someone relatively close that has done it, or a midwife that would be willing to try.

From everything I've read, it will not be likely to happen in a hospital birth, much easier in a home birth.
