Since it seems like all of us are in "Spell Farming" mode trying to fill in empty spots in our spellbooks, I thought I'd start a thread to list the zones we need spell drops from.

I prefer http://www.magelo.com to allah's for locating drops. I used it to get Spirit of Eagle for the Druid and it worked great.

List the spells you need/want and the zones/mobs they drop from.

The druid is looking for Improved Superior Camo from Icewell Keep or possibly Velks, and Levitation from An Enraged Underbulk in The Deep'. Neither of these are absolutely must haves. They are just really nice upgrades from their low level counterparts. I think there might be a few others she's missing, but those are the main ones I think.

I have a lot of holes in my spell book. Many of them are around the dropped stat buff spells. I haven't been too worried about those yet since almost everyone has maxed stats unbuffed. I suppose they will become more important once people start to get planar power AA.

I am also missing many of the higher level cures. So far I have had no use for them.

Most of my stuff, according to Magelo drops either in Chardok - the kennel master or big nameds, Seblis - sebilites or 'shrooms, Western waste - dragons, Skyfire - Guardian wurms, Ssra temple -the mystic, a couple from Icewell keep and lastly, the upgrade to puma along with some magic based dots are LDoN or DoN currency.

I am going to need Kei at some point, but that drops off luclin names like seru and Greig and several others. So unless someone gets research up that might be out of our grasp ATM. I have research around 65 right now.

I need some spells bought with LDoN points from Guk, Everfrost, and Butcherblock. I'm sure I'm not the only one. We also can upgarde our adventurer's stone augs by doing these.

Grouse went looksee in Akheva ruins last night and found The Va'Dyn up. After a really really long but not overly dangerous fight he went down. He didn't drop KEI unfortunately but he did drop Khura's focusing that was big for me.

Spirit of Eagle dropped on the way in and is sitting in the GB for Jemi at 65.

With a little more DPS the Va'Dyn is a relatively easy pharm I'd think.

It seems a shame to spend money (~2k per) for 61 spells when a little PoP xping will result in some ethereal parchment drops.

Tobi became an apprentice spell researcher last night. I also have arcane tongues AA at level 2 which decreases my fail rate. I'll be happy to try any combines for you if you have the materials. I have a small selection of scrolls and papyrus so I may be able to help with that.

What I really need is "simple binding powder" and "binding powder" to get my research up. These drop off of caster mobs in the 50-60 range. So if you have any please keep them for me as opposed to vendoring them.

In researching some of Goji's missing spells, I stumbled upon a fairly easy level 55ish quest that yields a class aura spell or tome.

The quest is called "The Chalice of Life". It all takes place in Takish-Hiz off of South Ro. Just grab the task from the NPC (He's marked on the map) and kill the four named mobs and loot their gem. They path around the edges of the zone and are really fast respawns. I was able to do this for the Druid (Regen Aura of the Grove) and Rogue (Poison Spurs Tome) last night, and later McDuff got his shammy resists/debuff totem as well.

Here is a link to the quest.
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/ques ... quest=3378

The mobs have a lot of hitpoints, but are otherwise not too tough. Having a tracker is helpful, but the zone is small enough that it isn't a necessity by any stretch. Mostly just bring your DPS.

Edit:
As an added benefit, the mobs I killed yesterday dropped a couple of the binding powders Tobi needs for his research.

What's the best place to work out the required items to research a spell? I've been looking through Allah's and everything I have seem so far is made up of purchasable item combines. I see nothing on the pages, and runes that drop all over the place, which I always thought were spell research items?

Purely cash drops now. They re-vamped Research a few years back, and in doing so went to a completely new system that uses vellums/binding powders to make inks and parchments, and then vendor bought ingredients. Once you get used to the new system, it's much more sequential and intuitive.

The old research drops still drop- and I think some of the old combines still work- but the new system is what's mainly used.

Gonna have to agree with Ladas here- interesting concept, horrible implementation.

a bad tactical option that was buggy, or unreliable, is still one more tool in the arsenal. I was raid leader for Rest in Peace for several years, (including this period) and it would have been just one more tool in our arsonal.

It was completely unnecessary, imo. We already had enough better tools in our box that I wouldn't have even bothered to scribe caltrops.

Going back to research dropped hides/scrolls/papyrus are combined with vendor items to make the spells you need today.

Binding powders are combined with vendor items and spell summoned components called essences to make one use attack scrolls. This is mainly provided as a way to raise skill without making spells as spells can cost hundreds of platinum per try. Of course the crux is you have to make spells to summon the essences yourself first in order to skill up this route.

Caltrops wasn't "buggy or unreliable", it was mechanically non-functional with next to 0 upside or usability. I spent 2 weeks working with the dev's in Beta on this thing, testing to see if they could make it work the way they wanted it to (cool concept). The problem was the mechanics of the game didn't allow for the plan to work, and since they couldn't adjust those mechanics, they canned the ability.

Nature's Lament would have been "one more tool in our arsenal" as well, and it was potentially the only thing ever introduced for rangers worse than Caltrops.
