Well, this is what Wikipedia has to say about Idaho's climate:

Quote:
Climate

Idaho has much variation in its climate. Although the state's western border is located about 350 miles (560 km) from the Pacific Ocean, the maritime influence is still felt in Idaho, especially in the winter when cloud cover, humidity, and precipitation are at their highest points. This influence has a moderating effect in the winter where temperatures are not as low as would otherwise be expected for a northern state with a mostly elevated altitude.[14] The maritime influence is lowest in the southeastern part of the state where the precipitation patterns are often reversed, with wetter summers and drier winters, and seasonal temperature differences more extreme, showing a more continental climate.

Climate in Idaho can be hot, although extended periods over 100 °F (38 °C) for the maximum temperature are rare, except for the lowest point in elevation, Lewiston, which correspondingly sees very little snow. Hot summer days are tempered by the low relative humidity and cooler evenings during summer months since, for most of the state, the highest diurnal difference in temperature is often in the summer. Winters can be cold, although extended periods of bitter cold weather below zero are unusual. This is what led the railroad tycoon Harriman family to develop the most famous ski resort, Sun Valley.

I'm looking forward to shovelling my driveway. My brother offered me his old snow-blower and I turned it down :)

Not only do I have a snow blower, it's got an electric starter. It plugs right into the 120v outlet, starts in the coldest winter's bitter mornings so I can use it all of 2-3 times a year to shovel all of the 2-3 inches of snow we get.

At first, I suggested to my wife that we not shovel the 3 car wide driveway, but she's an over-achiever and wouldn't hear of it. I've started engines in the cold - growing up we had an Alice Chalmers Model B that had to be hand cranked to start if we needed any tractoring done in the winter and it had a nasty "break your arm" backfire when it got cold out.

Never again.

I like snow. I don't mind shovelling terribly much, though I tend to do it after work, not before, and deal with the compacted tire tracks while savoring my sound night's sleep earlier in the morning.

The fact that the driveway to be shovelled is now gravel may prove interesting, however, and probably not in a good way. We'll see.

I've often wondered how you shovel a gravel driveway. Let me know how that works out.

Usually not very well.

Be ready for a crap ton of gravel in your yard along the edges of the driveway. Best bet is to let a thin layer of snow get packed down hard to create a base and then just shovel the new stuff that falls. That should minimize the amount of gravel you shovel up.

I'm thinking a couple 5 gallon cans of gasoline and a match. Use the shovel to move the gravel around afterward to even out the color of the scorch pattern.

That's the same recipe I use for leaf clearing. So versatile.

This was roughly my plan. Pack down the first few inches' worth, and then shovel down to packed snow.

This is the technique I use for our driveway, which is gravel.

It is the only way to go unless you lay down stupid amounts of salt before it snows.
