I suspect it has more to do with the pistol than the q-tip.

I just googled "puff a q-tip", and the only result was Power Puff Girls fanfic. I don't think I want to know anymore.

We went out to dinner with an Irish colleague of my dad's a while back, and he was talking about how shitty things have gotten in Ireland, as well.

He said that one of their largest banks, during a financial shakeup had tens of billions of Euros just disappear due to similar bailout attempts.

Given the demanding checks and balances system of any stable economy, stuff like that cannot be healthy.

I assumed it was what happened at truck stops and glory holes since we're talking about Steven Seagal.

Steven Seagal has killed people. IRL. Like, no joke. Have you killed people? Because Steven Seagal has. Also, I know exactly what DFK is talking about. I saw Steven Seagal puff a q-tip on the first episode of his totally awesome Cops show.

Being a smart ***, just like the references to your use of llama instead of lama. All in fun.

I've never heard of "puffing a q-tip" and think it's a pretty stupid thing to do. Stick a bulls-eye up and do it like a professional. Someone showboating with a pistol ... well, it's stupid. "Look! I killed a q-tip"! Uh huh...

I gave up plinking tin cans ... probably about the age of 12. I shoot to score on a target or to kill, one or the other, and I haven't shot a gun to kill for 30 years.

Want to impress me? Break both the horizontal and vertical with 3 shots from 100 feet. That'll make me go "DAMN"! Hell, do it at 25' and I'd be impressed. For that matter, any group where the holes all touch. Killing poor defenseless q-tips? Not so much.

It isn't just shooting the tip off of the q-tip, it is hitting it precisely enough that you don't shoot the end off, but break the fibers on the very end so that the cotton "puffs" free.

It requires uncanny and relatively scary accuracy with a firearm, and is one of the 3 things you must be able to say yes to in order to hate on Seagal.

[Edit: This isn't to say that Seagal isn't a pompous, arrogant, ****. He is. It's just to say that to truly make fun of him, you should be in some way, shape, or form, in the same league.]

That's rather absurd ...

What kind of firearm?

What distance?

Indoors or outdoors?

Some kind of pistol, can't remember.

Either 15 or 20 feet.

Outdoors.

I'm going to go with highly improbable.

Dude... he did it pretty much on demand on TV.

He also tried., but failed, to light a match. That would have been more awesome. Mythbusters proved it was possible, but doubtful as to likelihood a human could be that precise except on accident.

No real need to be any more accurate than hitting a fist sized object at any range with any firearm unless one wants to do trick shooting.

From what I remember, it was a 1911 or similar style making it a .45 cal. Distance was 20 some feet, cause really who is going to be able to really see the q tip at much farther?

Segal is a good shot.

Almost nobody knows what this is. I can't even find it on Google. Is this something that just you and your friends say? Could find references of this somewhere please?

I knew about this example of marksmanship, but also knew the refrence from watching the show. It's kinda like using the word "shiney" around people who never watched Firefly. They will get the idea when it's used in context, even without having seen the show.
