I think this is a disgusting ad --plays on racist/ethnocentric fears. The message may or may not be accurate but I'm repulsed by the tactic.

I can't tell what I'm more disgusted by. The ad itself, or the weak minded fools who fall for it.

It has nothing to do with racism or ethnocentric fears. No one was stereotyped; no mentions of Red China, Chairman Mao, or Communism were made. So, I'm curious as to how a bunch of obviously middle class university students constitutes racism or negative stereotyping.

Then answer the same question I asked TheRiov. What makes the ad racist?

We can talk about the economics later.

I never said it was racist.

Not surprisingly, I wholly disagree with Aizle and TheRiov. The ad is only racist/ethnocentric if you think any depiction of people other than white is such. The ad could have featured a classroom full of Norwegians, and those who think this one is racist/ethnocentric would have thought it was fine. However, Norwegians don't hold hundreds of $Billions of our debt, so the ad would have had the same (imagined) "racist/ethnocentric" elements, but it would have been inaccurate.

I thought it was a very effective ad that accurately, spoke volumes of truth.

Then what is the source of your disgust, and why are the "fools" who are swayed by it "weak-minded," Aizle?

It's over simplified, makes huge allegations which are not true, plays to fears about China as the next big economic power and plays to fears about communism.

Based on the above, I would think the fools part is self evident.

What is the oversimplification?
What huge allegations are not true?

You might say it "plays to fears" while I might say it "highlights a dangerous path". Of course you might also say that telling your children not to touch the stove "plays to fears" of being burned, while I might say it "highlights a dangerous path"...

The economics are horribly oversimplified, as are the reasons for the downfalls of the civilizations that have already fallen.
And it alledges that the British and US will fall as civilizations, and that the reason is our economic policies.

Considering the former extent of the British Empire, I'd posit that we should consider them to have already "fallen."

Edit: Please note I haven't watched this video, as I cannot do so from work. Just commenting on the whole BE falling.

How so?

It alleges nothing about the British civilization falling.
It accurately highlights the most prominent theory for the downfall of the US as a dominant world power.

Eh, enjoy your fear mongering guys.

I'm going to stop posting until the insanity of the elections are done. Everyone is way too riled and partisan right now.

Enjoy your holier-than-thou world-view.

I am not "riled", nor am I "partisan". Simply, facts are facts and ignorance of reality is still ignorance.

It's offensive because it suggests the Chinese people as a whole are:

1. Actively attempting to own/enslave us.
2. Laughing at our misfortune.

Only if you believe that this fictional portrayal of a hypothetical future is intended to be taken as a portrayal of factual current reality and representative of the totality of "the Chinese people".

And you know what else? The top guy at cagw.org is named Goldberger. This is obviously indicative of a larger Jew/Chink conspiracy.

I don't think I remember you decrying fear mongering when the MTV time travel political commercial was posted. At least this is extrapolating observable facts about our current financial situation, rather than hyperbolized caricatures of politicians who aren't even running. So who's partisan?

*shrug*

Dude, he's a moderate. Don't get mad just because you can't defeat the well-poisoning. Nancy.

Do you honestly want to discuss the economics of this particular ad, Aizle?
