Invert this and you have the Glade.

1) I honestly can't name any intelligent liberal posters who have been run off (it may just be my memory).

2) There aren't enough conservative posters in Hellfire to "overrun" the board. I can only think of about a half dozen off the top of my head, and I can think of nearly as many liberals. Unless, of course, you label as conservative: everyone who disagrees with Aizle.

I just don't see it.

Because you added the phrase "moderate out opposition", I can't figure out if you're talking about Monty, or this board.

Perhaps you should clarify further. No one has been run out of Hellfire, and of the two posters who have been banned (neither for their political views, I might add), they represented almost diametrically opposed viewpoints so there doesn't seem to be any agenda there.

I'm just not seeing it Aizle. The vast majority of people on The Glade who don't post in Hellfire don't post here because they don't care about the topics. The rest don't post because they don't want to back up their opinions with fact, or don't want their ideas challenged. As I said before, the Conservatives who post in Hellfire don't outnumber the Liberals to any degree beyond a hand full. What am I missing?

I believe that you're wrong on the conservatives vs liberals from an outnumbered standpoint.

As for folks who have left because of the environment here, I frankly don't want to call out people because several still post in other areas of the forums. Suffice to say that my observations are that any liberal poster gets jumped on here and has for years. YMMV.

Churchill is often credited as saying "Show me a young conservative, and I'll show you a man without a heart. Show me an old liberal, and I'll show you a man without a brain."

Meh. This board may just be old. I'm probably in the younger half of it and I'm closer to 40 than 30. I think the Churchill 'quote' is an over-simplification, but there's a certain amount of truth to it. Idealism is for the young, before they gain the common sense to learn pragmatism is what really matters.

Edit: Hah. I just realized, I can keep saying "I'm closer to 40 than to 30" for the rest of my life, long after it becomes misleading to use....and still be telling the truth!

Am I the only pastafarian? Fortunately, we who have been touched by his noodly appendage try to stay out of politics.

I don't think anyone here is unintelligent. I do think we are lacking in new viewpoints and ideas. So much so, that when a new idea does pop up in a thread, sometimes everyone gets so excited they lose control and piss all over themselves and the thread.

Sort of. You guys are outnumbered and you get dogpiled sometimes, but really the overall population of the Glade is so low that it's not near what I've seen on other sites.

I'm fairly certain the number of liberals on the Glade far exceeds the number of conservatives.

Exactly who among the regular denizens of Hellfire is a conservative?

Depends on if we're talking Fiscal conservative or Social Conservative. Based on my perception of everyone's self-identification...I've been known to be wrong, but this is my perception

Fiscal Conservative:
Nitefox
Elmarnieh
Khross
Mus
Hopwin
Rynar
Vindicarre
Shuyung
DFK!
Stathol
Takiss
Kaffis
Screeling

Fiscal Moderates:
Diamondeye
Talya

Fiscal Liberals:
RangerDave
TheRiov
Aizle
Arathain Kelvar

The others I don't know

This should be interesting.

Mookow is there a way to pull a list of posters in Hellfire for say the last month?

TheRiov, you forgot:

Darksiege
Rafael
Lenas
Rorinthas (I think)
Screeling
Rodahn
Midgen (I think)

Personally, I'd put DE and Talya in the fiscal conservative box, and Arathain and myself in the moderate box.

I think we should, as Shuyung suggested, take a moment to discuss what exactly (or not so exactly) a "Fiscal Conservative" is.

If by "Fiscal Conservative", you mean people who are tired of watching "The Government" waste taxpayer dollars in epic proportions, then yes, you should definitely include me. In ALL CAPS.

Edit:
And I'd also amend to that, the fact that this includes all branches of government, and across all political parties.

Curious thing that a broad statement is shifted into a specific qualifier once challenged. So, again, what makes any of you think this forum is particularly conservative? You've both rattled of a list of posters, labelled them as fiscal conservatives, and derived their status as conservatives from that assertion. The evidence at hand, however, indicates a vastly different political positioning than you think. Indeed, it's rather safe to say based on the lists presented, that you're both conflating a predilection for fiscal responsibility with fiscal conservativism: an egregious reduction for the sake of political factionalism.

The vast majority of the posters on this forum are liberal when it comes to both social and human interest policies, as well as the majority of fiscal policies. Indeed, particularly on the issue of social policies, the forum as a whole has individuals which are selectively conservative on very few issues. For the most part, everyone is of the notion that equal access, equal protection, and general human rights (at least as loosely defined by the West) are paramount to the success of the nation. Consequently, quibbling over specific ways in which to make the government expenditures more lean, more competitive, and more effective doesn't actually provide nearly the distinction or separation you both intimate it possesses.

So, once again, who among the posters on this forum is actually a conservative?

Heck I'm more moderate than some and I'm far more open to persuasion in my beliefs. I have often voiced that I'm not an economist and try to stay out of those discussions. I DO see a role for the federal gov't in many things however, so I guess that still makes me pretty liberal fiscally.

Socially on the other hand, I'm die hard liberal. *shrug*
