{snipped question about why win7
Vista fixed the poor WEP compatibility that XP had, not that it's a big selling point now considering WEP is old and mostly useless. Win7 is the first Windows operating system where I've actually used the new UI rather than rolling back to Windows Classic (Win98 UI). The UI is actually functional and usable, rather than a useless piece of **** thrown on in order to look slick and modern.

I had Vista on my previous laptop, and there were a lot of things about it that I actually liked now that I go back and use XP on my desktop. Mostly little things, like the way each OS handled file conflicts moving stuff around. Vista did actually offer a number of improvements over XP on the user end. The problem was that Vista is a resource hog. Win7 tightened resource management, while keeping the improvements.

Thanks, well said! My coworker loves it. Although - I still rolled my Win7 back, I have to admit. Just not ready to go modern yet.

Working on the new machine in my room in downtown LA. Be here tonight and tomorrow, but right now I'm going to buy a wired mouse. The cheap wireless one I got seems to be an advertisement for "you get what you pay for." The touchpad works just fine, but I prefer mice.

I have an Asus G72. 2.2ghz q9000 @ 1066 MHz fab, 6Gb ddr3, nvidia 260m gtx which is the best mobile gpu which isn't incredibly expensive. Well, Ati may have the 4850/4870m in some mid range notebooks now but any better chips are only available in really expensive Sager, ibuypower, mySN, Falcon NW, or Voodoo notebooks.

Best buy has refurbed g60s right now for under $700 which is a more mobile g72. A bit less power but the same 260m gtx:

My g72 ran everything I've played up to Aion with full settings. Only hardware problem was the display connectors work themselves loose under the hinges as you open and close the book over time. Seems common to Asus machines. Easy 1 minute fix.

Don't forget the 5870m in the mid-range (relatively inexpensive) Asus G73.
