My computer was working fine on Friday night, but when I turned it on Saturday morning, it got about 5 seconds into its boot-up then turned off, then turned on again for a few seconds, then off, on, off, on, off, etc. I took the following trouble-shooting steps:

1. checked all the external connections;
2. opened the case and cleaned out all the dust (there was a lot);
3. checked all the internal cabling connections; and
4. removed and reseated the RAM and video card.

Then I tried booting again. Same problem. Any suggestions for what it might be or what I can do to figure it out? Maybe a bad hard drive or a short in the power supply?

Does the CPU fan spin?

Yeah, although it does start about a second after the main case fan, and it stops a second or two before the computer shuts down.

Does it spin freely, or does it feel like it's binding?

A bad cpu fan will often shut down the system.

Hmm, I'll take another look tonight, but it did seem like the CPU fan was running a bit rough. Man, if it's just a bad fan, that would be awesome. Thanks, Taskiss.

So, did you ever fix this system?
