Just got back from seeing it as part of Phe's birthday. Brilliant, magical, wonderful film. Be warned, however; it's not quite the film the promos are selling. It's a much darker, more dangerous, edgier film than the happy-monsters-running-around-to-the-Juno-soundtrack trailers would lead you to believe (and it's all the better for it).

I don't think I would call it a children's film, but it's quite probably the most brilliant, insightful, honest film ever made about childhood.

Gonna try to do a full write-up later, but just wanted to weigh in immediately. Highest recommendation, with some possible reservations based on your expectations.

I honestly have no idea how they can make a full length film about a book that had all of 9 sentences. Also, I must be in the minority or something, but I hated this book when I was a kid. I always wanted the monsters to eat the kid.

Just got back from seeing it with a friend. We both thought it was really good.

Definitely differs a little from the book, but in a good way for a movie adaptation. Would recommend.

Of those who have seen this, would you recommend it for a 10 year old?

Saw this on Saturday.

EXCELLENT film. This was one of my favorite childrens books growing up, and when I first saw they were making it, I was very concerned that it would be politically correct-ified and ruined. It wasn't.

The film is really quite deep and full of great imagery. I don't want to really write much about it, as I feel that it's much better experienced first hand.

Taamar and I went to see this last night and both loved it. Highly recommend it to just about anyone.

Reporter: "What do you say to parents who think the Wild Things film may be too scary?"

[Wild Things author] Maurice Sendak: "I would tell them to go to hell. That's a question I will not tolerate."

Reporter: "Because kids can handle it?"

Sendak: "If they can't handle it, go home. Or wet your pants. Do whatever you like. But it's not a question that can be answered."

Sendak: "This concentration on kids being scared, as though we as adults can't be scared. Of course we're scared. I'm scared of watching a TV show about vampires. I can't fall asleep. It never stops. We're grown-ups; we know better, but we're afraid."

Reporter: "Why is that important in art?"

Sendak: "Because it's truth. You don't want to do something that's all terrifying. I saw the most horrendous movies that were unfit for child's eyes. So what? I managed to survive."
