The guy playing Tyrion is perfect. That guy has got some acting chops.

http://winter-is-coming.net/ has more info than anyone probably wants to know as far as details of filming and such goes. If memory serves, the episodes are a bit jumbled around compared to the chapters in the book, but there is only so much wiggle room allowed to do such a thing since you have to keep the concurrent storylines concurrent wherever they touch.

I'm kinda unhappy with the Daenerys. Originally Tamzin Merchant was cast in the role, but she had to drop out for some reason or other. She looked really perfect for the part... had this sort of otherworldliness to her that befits a Targaryen. Plus her coloring seemed about perfect, which is another thing very uniquely Targaryen.

Perhaps this actress can act and such just fine but... looks so wrong.

And what is up with a lot of characters eyebrows being wildly different color than their hair? :p Is this a conscious decision? Dany, Cersei are the two worst offenders but it continues in some others.

Ah well. Overall I'm still pretty pumped about this. A lot of the characters look great and the settings seem perfect. The eyebrows thing just kinda bugs me I guess since it seems so easy to fix. Perhaps there is something I don't know which says otherwise.

Yeah, I wasn't impressed with the look for Daenerys at all.

As for eyebrows, it's because they're doing a shoddy job of casting brunettes for blondes, and then not going back and fixing the eyebrows when they dye the hair or use wigs or whatever. Why aren't they? I have no idea, but my cynicism says either "laziness" or "squeamish actors who don't fit the required look but refuse to accept makeup to dye it."

Ahh! You can't put people willynilly on the Iron Throne! It ruins the best scene not in the books!

...still really pumped though! I was pleased when I realized how soon spring really is.

I think its really sad this series is going to drop before the latest book. Not that I'm not excited for the TV series mind you...

This series? Drop in the bucket!

Since the previous A Song of Ice and Fire book was released...

...humanity first acquired dust from a comet.
...the Human Genome Project was finished.
...Israel waged a brief war with Lebanon.
...Pluto lost its planethood.
...Thailand's military ousted its Prime Minister in a coup.
...Saddam Hussein was executed.
...the Writers Guild of America went on strike.
...petroleum surpassed $100 per barrel.
...Iran launched a rocket into space.
...Fidel Castro resigned his presidency.
...Bill Gates stopped taking daily part in Microsoft's operations.
...the Large Hadron Collider came online.
...the economy went boom. :(
...Facebook went from a fairly tiny thing to the monster it is today.
...'tweet' entered the public vocabulary.
...the Green Revolution rocked Iran and the world news.
...Eyjafjallajökull entered the public vocabulary... as 'yeah, that name. man those Icelandic folk have crazy names'.
...Deepwater Horizon, Haiti has a terrible time of things, Wikileaks, and other misc recentish things (ok I'm tired at this point of listmaking! :p)

...Mr. Miyagi died.
...Coretta Scott King died.
...Don Knotts died.
...Steve Irwin died.
...Gerald Ford died.
...Robert Jordan died. Also, his wife chose another author to continue the series. This author then wrote and published two Wheel of Tiem books. The third and final book will likely beat the next A Song of Ice and Fire novel to print. :(
...Evel Knievel died.
...Arthur C. Clarke died.
...George Carlin died.
...Michael Jackson died.
...Water Cronkite died.

And while the future is not certain, it appears that, for real this time, Duke Nukem Forever will be released.

...also in this time, George R. R. Martin published one novel, one novella, edited 8 anthologies (many of which he also contributed to), and, yes, wrote I believe one of the episodes of this HBO show... :p

From New York Comic Con this past October:

Quote:
We're hoping to have a finished manuscript by Christmas. [Martin has] told me he has five chapters left and bits of each chapter are done. He really wants it done by the end of the year. We really—I mean really—want to announce the pub date in January.

On the plus side, Martin himself has said he has about 100 pages of the next NEXT book already written... . . .

Look, just because you can't get over Ned's death, doesn't make Martin a bad writer.

In fact, given your propensity to denigrate popular fantasy's quality, I would say that the fact you care at all is high marks, indeed!

Fixed for accuracy.

Alternatively, I would've used Robert Jordan, but it seems mean to make fun.

Martin is still a hack.

And at least Jordan had the common decency to get gravely ill and die as a reason for what was taking so long.

...

Just because you did not like The Road and did not like it largely because it received the Oprah Winfrey seal of approval, the fact remains that Blood Meridian is an amazing and fantastic novel.

Yum. Reminds me, I need to call up DirecTV.

Also, Littlefinger makes me smile. Aiden Gillen was born to play that role.

I...don't get it. These trailers don't look all that great to me. It looks very, very generic. What am I missing, exactly?
