Personal Protip:

Many people claim they know how to get rid of gold beggars, but none of their tricks really work too well. Me? I've figured out how to deal with them as well as enjoy yourself in the process. What I have discovered and patented, is that in order to get rid of a gold beggar permanently; is that you need to reflect their annoyance back on them tenfold.

How do you do this? Basically, you need to put yourself in a pure role-playing mood. The role you are playing? You are playing an extremely ignorant human being, with bad spelling, who *needs* gold 100 times worse than the person begging.... and your english is bad. So that the second you see the word "gold" you immediately launch into this role.

A scenario:

Beggar: "give me sum gold!!!!!1111!!!"
Numbuk: "gold? you hav gold?! i need gold! how much gold can i have plz?!?!?"
Beggar: *no response*
Numbuk: "where u at? i need gold. can i hav? i need it! plz gold! plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!"


You either get one of two responses from the beggars. All of which result in them never bothering you again. Either they don't know how to deal with someone that is worse than them and just back the hell away, or they will be sympathetic to your plight for gold and say something like "ya i need gold 2. gud lcuk!"

It's glorious.

I like the "open the trade window with 1k gold and sit there until it expires" option.

Either that, or there was the beggar that I kept going around in circles for a week.... Told him that there was a quest in Goldshire that he had to do in order to be able to trade more than 100g at a time... And that I'd gladly give him 1000g, but he had to find and do the quest first.

Very interesting . . .

I just noticed something about the latest patch:

The new big event is called The Shattering, which has broken up and altered that familiar landscape of Azeroth.

Anyone else who has played EQ2 find this oddly familiar?

Ok so I'm a couple weeks or so in and here are my observations so far:

1.) For the Horde!

2.) Being able to only use your mount for travel sucks.

3.) I miss the ease of travel in EQ2, but WoW kinda makes you explore more, which has its benefits also.

4.) I wish you could have surnames (without getting an add-on).

5.) I wish you had personal shared bank slots.

6.) I wish they would allow Horde and Alliance to group together and understand each other.

7.) I really like the crafting system in WoW, just wish harvesting nodes weren't so random and spread out.

8.) I like being able to crank up graphics and have minimal lag/FR loss.

9.) I much prefer the new graphics.

10.) I wish they would show a quests level instead of just colors. When you only have one quest in your journal, it's hard to tell if it's grayed out.

11.) Quest helps built in to the default UI map are so nice.

12.) I miss the little popping sound you get every time you send and receive a tell in EQ2. I miss so many tells in WoW because I just don't know I'm getting them.

13.) Class balance seems so much better in WoW than in EQ2.

14.) The AH should just be remade as a Buy It Now House -- doesn't seem like much auctioning going on.

15.) I love the individual flair each race has -- something I dearly miss from EQ1 when I played EQ2.

16.) I love opening the WoW application, logging in, clicking Play and it only taking a few seconds to load the game. EQ2 = about two+ minutes from launch to actually getting into the game.

17.) Aggro radius is insane! Walk into an area, something only a few levels above you aggros you from 50-60 feet out. WTF?

18.) Zone structuring is a little wonky. You'll have these couple of starting areas that take you to lvl 20-25 then you think -- well I'll just go over to the adjoining zone and it will be 25-30, right? Wrong! Lvl 25 area directly into a 40+ area is a little boggling.

Still having fun. I've really only scratched the surface at this point.

You may be forgiven if you only meant that you'd be cool with grouping with Gnomes and Dwarves.

I'm still trying to find the paperwork to submit to kick out Blood Elves. I'm hoping the Alliance will trade Gnomes and Dwarves for them. The latter bunch are all half-sized anyway so the math checks out.

Blood Elves > all other races so far.

And as much as I like The Horde, I think they should let opposite factions interact with one another. Stands to reason that not ever single Alliance is going to hate every single Horde. Specially when there are large issues afoot . . .

Not really. I've played both, and they aren't that much different in terms of playerbase. The only difference is most servers I have seen, ally outnumber horde most times. You have good and bad for both, and you have complete dicks on both sides as well.

2- like WG vehicles? No thanks
3- never played eq2, so don't know.....but WoW travel is/was much easier in LK than before....although they have removed portals, grrr. If you have other items available (engineering, ToC tabard, scrolls) getting around is pretty easy. And you can take those shortcuts (or could) from Dalaran to CoT, and the thing in Sholazar to Un'goro......druids get that port to Moonglade, and DK's get one to EP.
4- yeah, but with all the titles and such.....it could get really long and messy (already is in some cases)

Wouldn't really work, since on pvp servers you fight each other all the time (or can). It is bothersome when a friend is on their horde toon and you are on ally, or vice versa, though. It can be a pain not to be able to group that way..........

It isn't that bad, once you learn the routines or get some addon help. You can basically farm in certain areas creating loops (as long as you don't have much competition). The biggest problem is/was bot farmers running the loops 24/7 and having to combat them along with regular players in say.....Sholazar basin.

grumble.....I can't do that now. I only have an 8600gt card. I bought an ATI 4770hd, but it has problems apparently with the 2d and I need to send it back......eventually. The graphics have come a long way, though. And as cartoony as it is compared to some games, it is still pretty good once you get used to it. LoTRO is another amazingly beautiful game IMHO.

I haven't played a lot lately, and it's probably borked atm, but I used carbonite....I think they are going to undate it for Cat also. Once you get used to carbonite, it's hard to live without. It does take some memory, but it's worth it as it has so many nice things. It gives you a minimap you can use along side the regular, or in place of, that shows a great deal more. It gives you a better quest tracker, with quest levels and shows group members as well so you know who is progressing. It makes announcements to your group members and yourself on progress and completetion. It tells you when enemy players are near in BG's. Etc etc etc. I need to see if they have made progress with the update again.

Hrm.....pvp wise, or pve? Pvp wise, there has always been problems. Some classes always struggle while some are always stronger. Pve it's not so bad. There will be some that are top damage, but usually the others aren't that far behind that it's a problem. Right now, hunters pvp is in the crapper....for instance (at 80).

Usually not. People usually put a buy it out price, because people tend to want to get the item for use immediately. Only some gear items or special frill items will get attention otherwise and bid on. Get an addon to help you watch your bids and selling. Also helps with market prices. I've been running AuctionLite for a long time, but if you have an enchanter or deal with enchanter mats you may want to get Auctioneer (the complete heavy version).

Really? I never noticed that at all. I've been able to walk/ride by stuff 2 or 3 levels higher pretty easily if I give them just a bit of room. However, if you are talking about 10 levels or so.....yeah. I still remember when I started WAY back when the game was a couple months old, I made an undead warrior and leveled up to around 11 or so and was making my way thru the starter zone, when I neared the area of the Bulwark. I walked up to the *yellow* NPCs that weren't agro and was checking stuff out, when a player dragged a couple of Fallen Heroes to the Bulwark. I immediately moved way away.....like 60 yards or so, and after they killed the then level 50 character.....the B lined to me and 1 shot, rofl.

See above.....rofl. It gives it some fun IMHO. Kinda like having a big robot guard walking around in HFP sneaking up on you, or a huge dino in Un'goro who sneaks up on you, or one of those giants in Howling Fjord. It give you the thought that at any minute, you might be smushed. Back when the game was still new-ish....there were lots more elite mobs in the world. Where you will only find regulars today, with MAYBE one rare elite on a spawn table, you had elites everywhere. You venture into a place to hunt, and oops....that was a camp full of elites, not regulars. Splat. :mrgreen:

Well, was thinking more along the lines of EQ2 mounts -- you had mounts that gave you added character bonuses, as well as move speed, and you could stay mounted while gathering/attacking/etc. The game had a hide mount option you could select, so all the mounts wouldn't lag you out.

And yeah, surnames + titles can get long (like they were in EQ2), but they allowed for more immersion and creativity, as well as RP options.

Bleh, forget PvP. They could just allow it on PvE or something. I never really liked the whole "Us vs Them" mentality in MMOs.

Haven't really run into any farmers yet. I'm on Thorian (Thorium ?) Brotherhood, so maybe it's just a lower-pop server. Just seems like you'll be out there for hours and really only get enough mats to go up maybe a dozen skill levels, if that.

Honestly, I need a new card, too. Even still, if I had the settings in EQ2 that I have in WoW, the game would be a slideshow.

Ugh, I don't even mess with PvP. As for PvE, granted my exposure is limited, but playing classes individually seems to indicate that each can hold their own pretty well.

One of these days, I'm going to learn how to play the AH -- you know, buy low sell high thing. In EQ2 you could make a killing playing the broker, but it seems like it might be harder here, since you have a limited time to place items up for sale, and playing the market takes time.

Yeah, I can understand a much higher level thing having a larger radius, but still . . . When I was trying to get to a harvesting area my level, I had to pass through some Ally territory around Searing Gorge that was much higher than me (see my complaint about zone level layout) and these friggin dark dwarf sharpshooters were picking me off from a mile away. I finally just gave up and hearthed back.

See above.....rofl. It gives it some fun IMHO. Kinda like having a big robot guard walking around in HFP sneaking up on you, or a huge dino in Un'goro who sneaks up on you, or one of those giants in Howling Fjord. I could see it harkening back to a time like in EQ1 when the world felt like a larger, more dangerous place, and getting a rush out of going through dangerous zones, but really, when you just want to kick back and play and have a certain goal you want to reach, the stupid zone level layout gets tiresome.

Like right now, I am trying to get to a place called Swamp of Sorrows to gather, and have no idea how the hell to get there without going through lvl 50+ zones (I'm currently a 38 Blood Elf).

EDIT: BTW, hy did they get rid of so many portals? Sounded like it would make travel so much easier.

Swamp is a 50ish zone now, not like it used to be a high 30s... once you get the breadcrumb quest for it (usually in Burning Steppes) you get directed to a rocket path in the lower right corner of Burning Steppes that'll take you to the swamp

Hm, my gathering skill musta surpassed my char level then, because the gathering guide I am using has accounted for the Shattering patch.

And this Carbonite thing doesn't seem to be loading for me.

TBH, I haven't been playing for a bout a month now, so I'm not even sure what's what right now. As for the Carbonite add-on......it appears they are still keeping it up to date. Go HERE to get it. It should direct you to a WoWInterface page for actual downloading.

You may want to take the time to read up on it also at the link above......look at their forums. It can be confusing to set up the first time FYI. Well worth it in the long run when you are questing around.

Well, like I said above I am looking for a class that can solo but still be useful to a group.

I'm generally not a fan of finger-waggling archetypes, but pure tanks and pure healers bore me, as well. I am mostly drawn to "hybrids" or Swiss Army Knife classes.

...This is WoW, every class can solo and everything can be useful. This sin't EQ where there existed the "holy trinity."

Get WIM, it stands for Wow Instant Messenger. If you get a whisper it pops up in it's own window.

Just make sure when you do, you get them from legit sites (don't just google stuff, go to the main sites like WoWInterface, Curse, WoWAce, etc) AND when you d'load them, make sure they don't have exe files and don't execute them if they do, delete them. This is how people get troubled with their accounts....

While some people say it's a bit more dangerous to use a downloader vs manually downloading each addon, I still find downloaders useful as they show me what I have and if it's up to date. I've used Curse's downloader, but went back to using Wowmatrix's downloader. Most of the addons will tell you when they are out of date and there is an upgrade, and at the bottom when you highlight an addon, you can click on the a link for most of them to go directly to the site to manually download them if you wish. Although, I've never had a problem downloading from the downloader itself....

On the class discussion, once again, I would say pick one of druid or paly to start out....as both classes will always be very solo and group friendly. Play other classes as you have time to, but remember that you will not get a good feel for them until you reach at least level 20, and most times 40......as those seem to be the levels they really start to get their core abilities that make them useful and fun.

Paladins are much easier to play now then previously, as they've given all classes some core abilities earlier......but when I started mine, it was really boring and not as easy until I reached 20. From there, it got easier and funner to play going forward. Same for my druid.....

I've probably posted something similar to this before. If I have, sue me. I speak this stuff often enough I can't remember where I've mentioned it. :D

There used to be a noticeable difference, once upon a time. When WoW first came out, most servers the ratio of Alliance to Horde was 3 to 1, some 4 to 1 (there was maybe only one or two servers where Horde outnumbered the alliance, but they were rare). My theory is that every teenager (or adult with a teenage mindset) wanted to play a "Ninja Drizzt with Boobs" and so flocked to the Alliance.

Horde had it's immature players, but on the whole of the people you'd meet they would be level-headed and mature folks. This was consistent enough that you could place bets to a new player you'd meet that they would be a mature adult and 8 times out of 10 and you'd be right.

Another part about being the minority on most servers is that it fostered a tighter-knit community. The Horde players looked out for each other. When someone sounded out an alarm, it was very common that others would drop what they were doing (even from quite far away) to help out.

What caused the shift of balance in maturity levels wasn't the blood elves, like most people think. It was actually Battlegrounds.

Blizzard introduced honor points before Battlegrounds. So what did players do, across every server, to get honor? They flew to a town that was close to another enemy player's town to bait them to come out to fight. Where did this take place? Tarren Mill. And every Tarren Mill fight was very one-sided. The Alliance always outnumbered the horde, sometimes as much as 10 to 1 (I have been there, I remember). But the Horde never gave up, even under such total ownage. In order to get some points at all, they had to learn to work together somewhat or else they were just fish in a barrel with no return.

Then one day, Warsong Gulch was released. Suddenly, the playing field was even. The same horde members who had to learn to work together, even with complete strangers, now had a much easier time with things. Combine that with very low queue times (again due to the alliance to horde imbalance) and the Horde was winning battlegrounds constantly. The forums were lit up with people complaining about the horde always winning, on many more servers than my own (being a server-hopper, I find it really interesting that all servers tend to follow similar trends in all sorts of things).

Now the immature punks (who want to coast through life) at this point have had their fill of their ninja drizzts with boobs and now want to be fairweather fans and jump ship to the side that's constantly winning battles. And jump ship they did. I noticed a steadily increased amount of immaturity on the horde a couple weeks after WSG hit. It only continued to get worse as time went on.

BC came out with Blood Elves, and all they did was just seal the deal. The kids who didn't jump ship because they were still too attached to their ninja boobs, now had no excuse not to jump over.

Blood Elves weren't the cause, but they certainly didn't help either. At this point, there is no difference between Horde and Alliance. The two are exactly the same, maturity wise. I have mains on both sides, on multiple servers. It really has evened out.

It's never been that way, contrary to your belief. It might have been that way on your server, but the Horde was never "more mature" as a general rule. Besides, this is the internet and the number one reason for picking any class? What pwnz n00bz better?

It's purely subjective, I can only relate my experiences on multiple servers. I'm not saying that the horde didn't have asshats and that the Alliance didn't have any mature players. I can only say that with all of my characters on all of the servers I played on (both Alliance and Horde), if I were to pick a random sample the results were pretty consistent for me. And I am also saying that today my experiences are far different than they once were, and there truly is no distinguishing between random samples of Horde and Alliance members.

My experience has been that Horde is full of douchebags, while Alliance is not.

Clearly I am right because I have also played on multiple servers. :p

Vanilla-WoW warriors were like this. I didn't play duing burning crusade, so i cannot comment on that, but...WotLK warriors were NOT miserable to level at all. Prot spec meant you could park yourself against a wall in an area heavily populated by mobs and come back 20 minutes later to see a few dozen dead mobs at your feet, and your health still at max. I levelled a gnome warrior from 1-80 in very short order.
