Saw this thread on another forum, and it seemed a good venting mechanism for that community, so thought I'd try it here.

Here's my list:

PS3 first-party games are better than those of other consoles.

Mario games were crap when they went 3D.

^^^Same with Zelda games.

Ocarina of Time was horribly overrated.

Half-Life 2 is vastly overrated.

Portal was meh.

Mass Effect 2 is superior to ME1. And on a related note, She-Shep is NOT superior to Male Shepard. Both voice actors did an equally terrible job.

Demon's Souls' own ambition was its downfall.

Sega CD was a great gaming platform, with some of the best games of the era.

Console gaming can be just as good (and even at times exceed) PC gaming.

WRPGs > JRPGs

Nintendo consoles post SNES were bleh, with equally bleh libraries.

The focus on console multiplayer features has ruined console gaming to a large degree.

A one-console future is a terrible idea.

Aeris/Aerith dying in FFVII stirred no emotions in me whatsoever.

Many Diablo-clones were better than the games upon which they were based.

Of all of those, the only ones I truly disagree with are:

Mario going 3D
Zelda going 3D
Ocarina of Time being overrated

The rest of the statements are at least somewhat true in my opinion. I won't argue them. I will put it that way.

As for my list (it won't be nearly as long because I can't think of many):

Sports gaming was better 5-10 years ago.

The focus on pretty graphics has ruined the industry to some extent. (Games cost more, worse gameplay, etc).

Halo actually deserves its credit (Unpopular because so many people hate on it).

The Wii sucks, with the exception of a handful of games that came out a long time ago.

Everquest was more enjoyable than WoW is today, by far.

Madden 2006 and on = SUCKS (After they bought out the exclusive license)

I'm tired of the same 6 or 7 series coming from Nintendo, rehashed over and over on each console generation. Create something new. I think you've jerked that udder way to hard, for way too long.

FPS games are more fun on console than PC.

I agree with the 5-10 yrs ago statement. I still play my MVP 2005 baseball game by EA sports (the last one I bought of that brand, maybe the last that was made). I still have the 2003 and 2004 in a box, but the 2005 had a few more bells and whistles I believe, like owner mode IIRC. Hands down, my favorite baseball game.

The Wii is a let down. Only console I have atm. I bought it mainly for sports games. Tiger Woods golf is "okay", but not exactly what I expected. The 2K MLB game sucks donkey balls, plain and simple. It is incredibly hard to hit the damn ball, to the point I don't even play it anymore. Not to mention, outside of the Wii Fit, I hardly play anything at all on the damn thing. If I were younger, it may not be so bad, but with my age and disabilities.......30 minutes and my frickin' bones are killing me from standing and swinging controllers around.

EQ was more enjoyable than WoW in the fact that it had an actual community. WoW has never had, nor will ever have anything close to that community feel EQ had. And guilds in WoW are no where close to EQ guilds (at least the ones that stuck together). Maybe the fact that it took more than one person to kill most things, and forced people to group, made the game actually better overall.

Console gaming can be just as good (and even at times exceed) PC gaming. - I'd add the caveat that trying to port a lot of games to console ruins them.

Nintendo consoles post SNES were bleh, with equally bleh libraries. - Nintendo needs to stop repackaging the same 6 games from the NES/SNES era for their new consoles.

A one-console future is a terrible idea. - True, but Nintendo needs to step their graphics and console up significantly or drop out.

Aeris/Aerith dying in FFVII stirred no emotions in me whatsoever. - Ditto, I never got that. Also Sephiroth, while incredibly animated for the time, was NOT the most bad-ass villian ever.

Blizzard is over-rated. The only decent franchise they have is Diablo.

I have barely started HL2, but Half-Life 1 was vastly overrated. People heralded Halflife as "adding depth and story to first person shooters." Did they not play Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight before HL came out? How about all of the early Monolith titles (AvP2, NOLF, NOLF2, TRON2.0) which, from a story and immersion perspective, made Half-life its *****?

I'm not saying HL wasn't a decent shooter, it just wasn't even near the top of its category. Certainly beat anything iD ever made.

ME2 was superior to ME1, marginally. Both were good games. I don't find male Shep to be bad, but Jennifer Hale is a goddess and has never given anything less than a stellar performance.

Yes, Console gaming at its best can definitely exceed the occasional PC game. However, nothing ever compares to the best PC games.

Diablo (and D2) was also boring as hell. (hahahaha...boring as hell...ha) It's therefore very possible that some "Diablo clones" are better than the Diablo games. However, they're still likely to suck. (See Torchlight.)

Opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one and they all stink.

If we all thought the same and loved and hated the same things, it would get pretty boring around here really fast. We can all have different preferences, opposing likes and dislikes and that is okay. Thread like this will prove that not everyone likes the same things. Go for it.

Wings of Liberty (Starcraft2) may be the best single-player game made since Dragon Age, and since KotOR before that. However, as a multiplayer game, I don't enjoy Starcraft at all.

I agree with this...except her performance in Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2. I don't know what the **** people are smoking when they say she did a good job in those games. She comes off flatter than Meer does in Mass Effect(he improved vastly for Mass Effect 2, however).

Hard to comment on the sports games, as I don't really play them. From what I have heard from others who have, however, both Madden and NCAA are in dire need of reboots.

Yeah, ports are tricky things to get right. This day in age, with differing architectures, you almost have to develop them simultaneously or one right after another for the port to translate well.

Not even necessarily a Nintendo-only future, but a future where Uber Company A puts out a universal format that all game studios develop for. I see several posts from people on other gaming forums say how they'd love to have just one console to buy for, not realizing that such a situation would stagnate creativity, and create a brutal monopoly. Creating new game ideas that play to different systems' strengths is one reason we have good games in the first place.

Not first person (like when you look through the character's eyes), but first party, where it is a dev studio wholly owned/controlled by Sony.

Torchlight was pretty good, but I certainly did not goo over it like many others. Titan Quest + expansion is still the best in the Diablo vein IMO.

Have to agree with Raltar on this. Normally I see Jennifer Hale as one of the best in the business, but she just kinda fell off in the ME series. To be fair, however, this may have been the game directors wanting to keep the voice acting as neutral as possible to retain the "make your own adventure" feel of the game.

Thought of another:

I consider the original Resistance Fall of Man game to be one of if not the best FPS experience of my life.

I'd rather play fun shooters on a console with a Gamepad than PC shooters with a mouse/keyboard.

God of War just isn't as compelling or fun as "GoW-like" (which is actually Devil May Cry like to be technical as DMC is the father of all modern action games, beating GoW by years) games like the new Castlevania and other series, even if it is much prettier.

Heavy Rain isn't a game, its designers should be given a pair of cement boots and dumped into the pacific and anyone who tries that bullshit again should be flogged.

Half Life 2 is a horrible game with the worst narrative in gaming history and the most overrated game of all time. It feels like you're going through the game after-the-fact and not a real part of the game at all and it's boring and dull.

Aeris's death stirred emotions in me - those of joy. Thank god that ***** died, she kept getting in Tifa's way and Tifa was and always will be a far better character.

Games only keep getting better and nostalgia is nothing but bullshit and nonsense. The SNES era is not some golden era that is superior to this generation in any way.

And Demon's Souls was easy and people are just awful at video games and silly for thinking it or any older games were "hard".

I feel the only MGS game worth a damn was the original. Twin Snakes remake was good, but the change in key voice actors(Grey Fox being the most notable) made me enjoy it a lot less. MGS2 was complete dogshit.

There are too many Sports Titles.
Eye-popping Graphics a hit do not make.
The MMORPG Genre (if not the entire gaming industry) peaked sometime around 2000.
Angry Birds may be the best gaming value of all time.
I don't think I can think of any more I can personally attest to holding right now.

I think that's hardly an unpopular opinion. :p Even people that like WoW should likely agree.

Sorta relatedly, I'm not sure if I agree or disagree, but part of me finds the "WoW is so easy" opinion to be wrong.

I consider myself a pretty good WoW player. I never had troubles with running out of Defile, I think I messed up Thaddius charges once or twice and properly handled myself when I did so that I didn't kill anyone, I was the only friggin person in my guild to get the Gorefiend ghost thing right the first time they did it, etc. Been part of a few server firsts in 10 man (Firefighter, Algalon, Herald of the Titans) and have cleared every hard mode in 10 man in WotLK. If I said WoW raiding was easy, however, I'd have to find some way to explain away the crazy low numbers of people, of raiders even, that succeed in killing the hardest fights in the game.

I guess coming from the lower third of US WoW servers progressionwise paints my experience differently than those amount the top servers, but so many fights went unkilled on my server entirely until it was very old content. HLK25 never got killed by anyone on my server at all, so you don't even get the chance to bring up the "well only 3% of raiders on your server killed that!" stat...

It's a bit of a paradox, cause I can move out of fire and still do my job which makes the game seem easy but there are SO MANY raiders out there who have tons of fights that are too hard for their guild to kill. So I dunno. After looking at the numbers, I am left with the Unpopular Gaming Opinion that WoW raiding is harder than is the general consensus.

The Elder Scrolls games are absolute garbage and I don't understand how anyone can tolerate them. It's like playing EQ by yourself.
