Ok, how the **** (yeah I said it) do you go off drinking or sobbing or whatever it is and just leave your kids at someone's house and not tell your kids (or their caretakers) that you're not coming back AT ALL that day??

OOOOOOOOOO I have not wanted to yell at someone so badly in such a long time!

I've been homeschooling these two boys for a single dad, along with my 8 year old. The youngest is 6 and the oldest is 9. We've been doing this for, what, three months?
Anyway, from what little I can gather, their whole family is in Louisiana and he does contract work that requires a lot of travel. Him and his wife split up, but for whatever reason, she did not want to take the kids and in fact they have only seen her once in the past few months and she does not answer or return their phone calls. (The dad seems VERY sad that she will not be a part of their lives...seems like he wants her back.)
So, the dad brings the kids up here to MS and rents a house and is doing work here and in kosciusko. Now he says he has to work in Hattiesberg for a month so this will be the kids last week with us. They are going to live with their grandparents in LA. He'll be working in Meridian after Hattiesberg.
Anyway. I got a text around the time he usually picks up the kids saying he's going to be late. Then I get a couple texts saying he is upset and he hates being single. He never says where he is, even though I asked repeatedly, just a "are the boys ok cause I'm not."
HE NEVER SHOWED UP. HE NEVER TOLD ME HE WASN"T COMING. (in fact, he texted several times saying he was either on his way or was coming, etc.) HE NEVER TOLD HIS KIDS THAT HE WASNT COMING...*I*had to break that news to them once I realized that he probably wasn't coming back...neither kid wanted to eat. The youngest one threw up...I know its emotions.
Nitefox and Taylor played video games with them. I bathed them and put the younger one in clean clothes but the older one I didn't have anything to fit him. Tucked them in, read them a story, and told them goodnight. Came in to the living room and a few minutes later my son comes in to tell me someone is crying. I go in to find the oldest boy tucked under his blanket, sobbing quietly. I kiss his forehead and rub his hair and tell him its gonna be ok...his daddy is upset and needed some alone time to figure things out. Don't know if thats too much for a 9 year old, but I believe in honesty.

I feel for the guy, I do, but DAMMIT DONT DO THIS TO YOUR KIDS!!!

I feel so bad for these kids. They are sweet boys.

What a selfish man...everything he is going through, they are going through too. And he decides to go out and get wasted and just not tell his kids he is not coming back.
I'm sure he will be here tomorrow, sober.

A huge part of me wants to feel sorry for him and another huge part of me wants to kick him in the nuts and tell him to man up because he totally abandoned his kids today and a good parent doesn't do that.
How hard would it have been to call the boys and tell them "hey, you're going to spend the night with Ms Katie tonight and I'll be back tomorrow." Seriously? How hard? Let alone ask ME if it was ok or at least TELL me.

I'm praying so hard right now its not even funny.

The Dad texted me to apologize and I said don't apologize to me, apologize to your boys. One of them threw up and the other cried himself to sleep.....10 minutes later, he showed up drunk to take his boys home. I told him he wasn't taking those boys anywhere in his condition...he said he wasn't driving, his cousin was. I went out to the truck to talk to the cousin...who was ****faced as well.
Awesome.
The dad comes out with one of the kids and I told him he wasn't getting in that truck or I was calling the police. He grabbed my phone...I grabbed it back...he threatened to call the FBI for kidnapping...typical drunk talk. We finally agreed the boys would ride with me and I would drive them home.
Carried them inside, kissed them goodnight and the Dad walked me out and said
"From one parent to another, never come between a parent and a kid. You won't be seeing them again."
And I said "That's sad for the boys. You need to quit drinking and get your **** together."

**** drunk people. Worthless pieces of ****, all of them.

Child services. ASAP

Emotionally it sounds like the kids are gonna be **** anyways, might as well try to get them out of their bad environment so they at least have a fighting chance to actually survive.

People brought to court for this type of **** and found guilty, should be sentenced to be neutered.

Report this bastard. If he shows back up at your place, shoot him and call the cops/sheriff to pick up the corpse.

I'll say a little prayer for the little ones involved. No kids should have to put up with useless dregs for parents.

Drinking turns people into selfish idiots. :(

The boys were so lucky you were there to make sure they were safe. The Dad does need to man up and be a parent, but that won't happen till he quits drinking and feeling sorry for himself.. It sucks the boys will have to pay the price for the Dad blaming his mistakes on you and keeping them away from you. You did what you should have and maybe one day, when he is sober, he will realize that you saved his kids.

Kate, you are an awsome caring person.

Kirra hugs

Sounds like drinking and feeling sorry for himself is coming between him and his kids.

Sam, calling DHS would cause unnecessary anguish and drama for those boys. On Friday, they will be at their grandparents home in LA to stay for a month or so...which is where they would wind up if I called DHS anyway.
The fostercare system in Mississippi is NOT a place where these kids would be better off than with their father.
Its sad. I hurt for these boys.

Still holding out hope that the dad will stop by and apologize and bring the kids and maybe we can have a little *chat.*

Cleaned, fed (tried to), played with, clothed, tucked in and comforted to sleep someone else's children because the father is a drunken POS.

This is the second time you have made me cry at work.

You are such a good person Katie and you deserve better than what you have been through.

Aw thanks you guys. *hugs* I was so bummed today...Nitefox texted the dad this morning saying something like "I know you're hurtin' man, but you really should call and apologize. She was just watching out for your kids." And I texted the dad with one line asking if the boys could say goodbye to each other.
No response. :'(
I had to explain to my kid when he woke up why the boys were not here...in his infinite wisdom of an 8 year old he said "well he was drunk and he probably didn't mean it and he'll probably bring them back here cuz since he was drunk he probably forgot all about it."
Now tomorrow I get to explain to him that he won't be seeing them again or getting to say goodbye. And that really pisses me off. Don't hurt my kid.
If I ever see that man again I'm gonna kick him in the nuts!!! Grrr!!!
(Well, not really, but I would want to!!)

Stop making me cry (always at work). You are wonderful and I pray that those boys and their father get through this.

Sad and inspiring at the same time. The world would be a better place if there were more people like you Kate. I feel for those kids. It seems a hard thing for some parents to grasp but once you have kids, your needs become secondary to theirs.

Thanks ya'll. Its been really tough...my kiddo was up crying the other night missing those boys. Sad sad sad. Its stuff like this that makes me so grateful that my son doesn't have to go through that kind of stuff...if the worst he has to worry about is being sad that his friends are gone then we've got it pretty good...he has 3 stable parents who love him.
