I think that the only rule for Hellfire should be...

If you act like too much of a douche...

Death by Snoo Snoo!

Decidedly NSFW, or anything, really.

As a note, even if you post NSFW images in spoiler tags, they can still be parsed and pre-loaded on peoples computers.

Be nice and just post the link, there's no reason to actually [img] it.

couldn't agree more. This should be heavily enforced.

Can't find any easy way to export the information, but moderator log shows 21 reports closed since May with none in September or October.

The job can be a little slow at times.

While an interesting number in and of itself, can someone invest a bit of time and answer the following questions:
What's the full breakdown per month?
How many of those required action?
How many of those requiring action were against board members in good standing (i.e. disregarding any spam-post deletions and whatnot)?
How many discrete incidents prompted requests (disregarding spam handling or other recognized crap)?

After a quick scan, it looks like:

None of the reports were spam-based.

The breakdown per month varies hugely....It all depends on how peoples tempers are flying that month.

All of them require action of some sort, whether it's post splitting, etc., a verbal warning in the thread or in a PM, or an actual warning.

Doubtful. There were no reports Sept/Oct. Unless there were 3 or 4 on Nov 1 and 2, I can't see where the elections influenced anything. I can't recall anything vociferous occurring after the elections. There was an election results thread, but I don't remember anyone ***** about anything except their own candidates and issues.

And your line for "don't be an ***" is different than mine. Subjectivity in a ruleset defeats the purpose of a ruleset.

Of course. My point is that needing a line to tell you exactly how far you can go is somewhat childish. I believe that, in general, adults can operate without a line, since they don't feel it necessary to even approach it.

Just because there were no reports doesn't meant there were no vociferous disagreements. Khross and I have had at least oen knock-down drag-out battle in the last couple months but neither of us feels it necessary to report each other.

Without getting into the details of who is reporting whom, there is flux depending on the parties in a discussion. Assuming that all 21 of the reports were initiated by a participant in a conversation and not by a bystander, it would just seem to show that some subset of the population feels victimized sooner than others. Which you really can't do much about.

If Hellfire were to become moderated like the rest of the forum, I think I'd just delete my posting history here and check out.

No, you can't, other than just publicly state that because political conversations are hot issues that easily become charged, and because mandating Miss Manners rules for them means emasculating discussion, that moderation is not going to police whether people are upset over something without some larger detriment to the board being demostrated.

You didn't do this the last time it was moderated.

The greater the Moderation has become since the last episode, the less I feel like wasting my time here. I rarely post at all anymore.

Yes it is. I thought those who might seek to increase moderation should hear my thoughts on the issue.

Towards that end, I'm not really sure I understand what mean.

There are maybe a couple different things you could be referring to as "the last episode", but either way, whatever the official rules might state, the practical reality is that Hellfire has been unmoderated since then. So I guess you could say that I understand what you're saying; I just don't understand how it tracks with what's actually been going on at the Glade for the last year or so.

Not criticizing -- just confused.

By last episode I was refering to the last round of official moderation policies in Hellfire. There have been some notable instances of moderation in the "no moderation" forum since then, and each instance has turned me off to the board a little bit more.

What issues specifically are you referring to?

It's been perfectly clear since the very beginning of the new Hellfire/Heckfire split that Hellfire was not going to be completely unmoderated, just mostly unmoderated.

I saw no need whatsoever for a change from the ruleset that was in place, but Dash was quite clear it was not going to be a total free-for-all

And by bans, you mean ban? The ban of the poster who was allowed back on a probational basis after a previous ban?

By bans, I mean bans. And I am aware of the circumstances surrounding both.
