Bladerunner! I must sit down and watch this, for once.

Does not! Don't make me go inflate that Wrath of the Lich King thread to its former glory! :D

I've got a backlog of films on DVD that I haven't gotten around to watching yet, and that's not even touching the films that I don't own yet want to watch.

Some of the ones I have but haven't gotten around to seeing yet (but have heard good things about) are:

Citizen Kane
Heavenly Creatures
Nosferatu
Metropolis
M
The Last Samurai
Sunshine
A History of Violence

A four-disc set of public-domain Alfred Hitchcock films
And a bunch more on my DVR, including Casablanca, Suspicion, The Trouble with Harry, Spellbound, To Catch a Thief, In Bruges...

Citizen Kane is not rewarding to watch ... the first time.

Citizen Kane, and Raging Bull.

Those are the only two movies in AFI's top 10 that I haven't seen before.

You need to get on that. One of the best things to come out of the 80s...and considering how awesome the 80s were, that's saying something.

I do not understand the growing western fascination with japanese culture.

I also do not like Tom Cruise much.

Spoiler:
I do not care for stories without a happy ending.

With those three facts established, I still loved The Last Samurai. Great movie...

The '80s sucked for music, but were good for movies.

I, too, however have never seen The Goonies. Weird, that.

The rise of anime geeks *cough*Crimsonsun/Mookhow/Sean*cough* that didn't exist when 15 years ago would be where I get that idea.

really? Cuz the animae geeks were in full force when I was in High School and College. its got a bit more mainstream I suppose but before that there were the various kung fu and ninja movies of the 60's 70's and 80's.

It's a lot easier to pirate bootleg anime and the distribution has gotten much better in the past 2 decades.

I don't really "get" anime. I liked Outlaw Star, but I also liked Serenity. I suppose there are anime pieces that are better than their live action or otherwise animated counterparts, but I don't want anime exclusively for the style.

Sin City, Road House, Slap Shot, Animal House and Stripes are all awesome movies. I haven't seen any of the others to comment.

Huh. Lots, probably.

Reservoir Dogs
Raging Bull
Taxi Driver
Full Metal Jacket
Barry Lyndon

... are the first ones to come to mind. I've also never seen Caddy Shack, but I don't know that that's an "awesome" movie.

I saw Goonies the day it came out, was massively disappointed.

Goonies is a kids movie. If you can't let go of your adult side you won't care for it.

Sin City...I could not stay awake for it.

They existed, they were just invisible until the internet showed them to the world.

This is true. One of my favorite high school pass-times was to watch their blood boil when I continually referred to it as "Japanimation."

"Oh, so you guys like Japanimation? ... Cool. Yeah I think I've seen some Japanimation before. Wasn't Duck Tales Japanimation? Oh, that wasn't Japanimation? Oh ok. What is some good Japanimation?"

heh...while I don't have much interaction with any anime fans, I will still throw out "Japanimation" for fun when I get the chance.

I used to call them "those weird cartoons". That really bugged them for some reason, even though that's what most anime is ;)

Tranzor Z kicked ***. At least that's what my 7 year-old self thought. I don't want to go back as an adult to verify it.
