I find that phone calls are by far the least useful thing my phone does.

Most of the technology I add to my phone is to avoid making or taking phone calls. :)

Personally though voice is the least important feature on my cell phone, I almost never get over 30 mins/month, often not even over 10 mins/month

If your phone doesn't do these things, you should ask for a refund (or some hands on training from the nice folks at the store where you bought it, or just about anyone 6 years old or older....) :p

Edit:

FarSky, I won't go into details, but I'm quite confident that your disdain for HTC is misguided.

They are quite capable of making some really nice phones (which isn't to say that every phone they make is awesome either).

Yeah, maybe if it was 1/5 the price.

Hopwin,

I had the Samsung Intercept and the Samsung Moment, and hated both. Mainly because of the half assed Android 2.1 they had on them. I got myself the LG Optimus S and it has rocked very much thus far.

I highly recommend it.

1. No issues up to this point
2. Android 2.2
3. I love LG just for their name (due to the current "Life's Good" slogan/backronym)
4. It is called the f***ing Optimus... how much more badass can a phone be from there? The Samsung Starscream? The HTC Megatron? No it is the god damned Optimus.

Hehe.. nice post!

Oh, and the current 'Lifes Good' moniker is just another westernization of the original company name.

They were founded by a Korean gentleman named Lak-Hui as a chemical company. He spun off an electronics manufacturing company called Goldstar (you may be familiar with this?).

Conveniently enough 'Lak-Hui' western translation came out sounding like "Lucky", so they changed the name of the company to "Lucky-Goldstar", and eventually shortened it to just "LG". They adopted "Lifes Good" in 2009 as a marketing slogan.

Oh, and here is some fun with 2 letter domain names :p

I did not have much experience with them before the Life's Good Marketing Slogan (I think maybe a Goldstar monitor once upon a time), but I knew the Company name was Lucky-Goldstar. But I have had nothing but good experience with their product since I have been using them.

I have no experience with the Evo, so I cannot give it an honest recommendation. :)

The only thing I can say about the Evo is holy crap... it is like carrying around a small brick.

The huge screen is awesome for movies or gaming (more room for controls).

So, I got to spend some time with the Optimus T (T-Mobile version) today in the Lab.

It's a solid phone, and feels good in the hand, but I'd have to agree that it's not up to par with the Evo (from the reviews and accounts that I've heard). Also, I looked at the TMO Optimus support forums and it gets pretty good reviews generally, but some folks experienced some issues with UI lag while using WiFi after the last OTA earlier this month. It might be worth looking into to make sure that's not an issue for you...

That said, there are some new phones in the rumor mill that have my interest piqued.

The LG Optimus X2 will likely be my next toy.. just have to wait 4 months.

ive had the epic for maybe 3 weeks now? GPS Is god awful, does not work at all...reading on XDA forums, the 2.2 Android OS supposedly fixed that. No matter where I am, I cannot get locked on in any way shape or form.

I have not rooted the phone yet and this is a huge upgrade for me, coming from a Blackberry work pays for running 2.1/2.2 OS (I think thats what it is??)to a Droid running 2.1 is a huge leap forward in the smartphone department for me, although I wouldnt call my blackberry smart in any way shape or form (mostly due to corporate firewall/restrictions on it).

I love my epic so far. Battery life is blah, after tinkering with it, ive gotten it to last about 8-14 hours now, main thing is turning of Samsung's damn DRM service, cause it checks in like every 30 seconds, but even just sidding idle, the battery would drain in like 4-5 hours and thats just silly. Seido also makes a 1200mA battery I beleive for all the galaxy S phones, I just got mine yesterday and it has about doubled the battery life, but also nearly doubled the thickness of my phone and does not fit most cases anymore.

The screen on the epic is fantastic, I love the screen on this.

From everything i read, the Epic dock has some issues as well, I beleive samsung wrote an app to fix them, but after the reviews on the Dock, I dont want to spend $20-$30 on something that doesnt fully work yet. Some of the things, muting the phone (User error for the most part putting it in), dock speaker not working, having to take the phone out of the case to fit in the dock.

GPS is really the only thing I have problems with well and Flash not running obviously till 2.2, I hope Silverlight comes to droid soon

Kashan,

My primary handset is a Samsung Vibrant from TMO (Samsung SGH-T959). I also had serious issues with the GPS.

I finally gave up waiting for an OTA from TMO/Samsung and installed a ROM using ODIN.

Here are the details.
Firmware Ver: 2.2
Baseband Ver: T959UVK2
Kernel Ver: 2.6.32.9
Build Num: FROYO.UVJK2

Since I installed this I have had near-zero GPS issues. It tracks much faster, and it has a bunch of new features.

You might look around and see if you can find a similar build specific to your hardware (if you are interested in rooting it).

The process is simple. Procedures are all over the web.

The process is indeed simple. For the love of crap, root your phone. The mod community creates great ROMs that improve your phone's performance and battery life.

My Droid is overclocked to 1GHz (from 500MHz) and the ROM I'm using still gets better battery life out of the battery.
