So, may I then infer Aizle, that you think its ok for kids to watch porn?

I agree with the whole prude argument but only as far as nudity goes. My dad walked around the house naked when I was a kid, I took showers with my parents, I took showers with a bunch of naked strangers at the community pool...nothing weird or sexual about any of it. Heck, my kid and I took showers together for a long time. When he got to be 3 and started asking questions I just gave the whole "this is mine don't touch it that is yours dont let anyone else touch it" speech and that was that.
I don't see anything wrong with family nudity or public nudity, provided there are no sexual connotations.

Very true! Only a prude would not want their daughter thinking it's ok to be gangbanged or sons thinking how hot it is to rape schoolgirls or watch girls having sex with animals.

Stupid puritans.

Point being, porn is not comprised of sex as it was meant to be...a loving act between two committed people. Porn exists as sexual fantasy....allowing people to be exposed to the world of sexual fantasy before reaching an age of maturity to understand real-world sex is just a bad bad bad idea.

Don't like I actually support the view.

I don't have a problem with kids seeing or being aware of porn. If it goes beyond education of "what is" into an addiction/fascination that a parent can't control, there's a problem.

By similar logic, you would not want your son to think it's ok to run people over with vehicles or learn how much fun it is to shoot people in the head. If I ever have kids, they can watch or play whatever they want.

Well, I guess we'd have to define "kids" first.

So for some kids, especially older ones, sure it's ok for them to watch porn. Back when I was growing up the most available porn was all the various girlie magazines that went into the dumpsters. A buddy and I knew when garbage day was for several of the local apartment complexes, and which ones had the best mag subscriptions. We probably had 300+ dirty magazines easily. I was around 14 years old at the time.

I watched my first R rated movie when I was 12. It was "10" with Bo Derek. I was watching HBO with my dad and it was on next, and I asked if I could watch it. He said it was ok and watched it with me. I must say it was very odd/uncomfortable watching it with my dad at the time.

I do think it's a good idea to try and limit young kids exposure to porn, especially when they are young. But there is plenty of good healthy porn out there, that wouldn't be damaging for even young kids to see. I suspect that you'd get varying responses of "ew gross, cooties!". But most of the mainstream porn that's out there I think isn't damaging for kids in the 14+ age range.

The one area where I think there is some valid concerns with the internet and easy availability to porn is the hardcore and darker fetish stuff. I'm not talking about foot fetishes here, but some of the harder BDSM and scat stuff. You definately need to be of an age where you can reason and have a very firm foundation of what "normal" is before seeing that stuff IMHO. Note that I don't think they should be banned or prevented, just that you need to have some groundwork laid before venturing that way.

As with everything YMMV.

That you leap here for what "porn" is just proves my point.

1. the article is about the UK not America.
2. My view remains the same regardless of country.
3. If you cannot be bothered to learn how to secure your network against things you do not want your kids to see... do not take it out on others by making them lose access to what they want.
4. Government: stay the **** out of people's private lives. Armageddon would be a good way to protect the children from the dangers of the world too...

Right, what's your point? That game is rated "adults only" if I recall correctly.

There are lots if good Internet filtering and monitoring ( I recommend both) available for protected browsing by minors.

So I'd be for the whole moving questionable content to to .adult addresses and allowing ISPs to block it at their switch at the customer's request.

In the end once again parenting need to come from the (*gasp*) parents.

Is anyone here actually laboring under the assumption that porn is "real"?

Lex if you take the view that not telling your kids about Santa is lying, then it's illogical that you would allow them to watch porn under the same reasoning. It's fake people in fake situations... ah screw it, you've already been told this in the other thread.

Do we really need to walk you through this, or are you saying you believe that porn is real, and therefore not presenting a lie as truth to your kids?

No it doesn't. It's porn. You can try to classify stuff all you want but watching two people go at it is porn just as watching some woman get screwed by a donky is porn. Call me a prude all you want, I'll take that over being the pervert you seem to be.

You trying to say that things happening in porn are not possible in real life? Because that's the case with Lex's Santa argument.

I am gonna go out on a limb here and say he was commenting more on the initial jump to porn=gang bang than anything else.

Just my take on his postition.

taking your statement here to the logical conclusion... that can be taken to any medium.

Why go see movies, it is acting... lies for entertainment.
Why listen to music, the musicians are in character and probably lip syncing.. lies for entertainment.

I am not saying I agree with Lex in either thread. But I do not know that I can agree with your stance as stated here.

If it can be taken to any medium, well how about we stay on the topic we are talking about? I can't believe that presenting mainstream pornography to children is without harmful repercussions. The intented audience should have at least a basic grounding in social interation and reality by the time they are "allowed" to watch porn. Children haven't had a reasonable amount of experience with those concepts yet. Now could kids? Yes. I think that society and their constant nannying is to blame.

Well, regardless of the fact that I view porn as potentially harmful to kids, the government should not be raising people's kids.

Lex,

I have to admit, though..I am curious to know what you learned from porn. I never watched porn when I was a kid. I agree with Kate, that it's a Fantasy thing not a way to learn about sex.
