Government on government official violence leads to less government violence on citizens.

And yes I have no problem with the death penalty in theory.

I'm not sure that a perpetual state of violent coup d'etat is my preferred choice of government.

Mine either, however it won't take long before either the corrupt are too scared to act and run for office and there won't be need for such activities for a time.

I see nothing else that they are afraid of enough that will halt their activities.

I'm open to options if you have any that may work (voting has proven not to).

You're going soft, Rynar.

I've gone a big rubbery one. It's not that I don't understand Elmo's point. I do, and I'm very sympathetic. It's just that his remedy is going to leave us with a whole new slate of problems, and I'm not sure they aren't worse than the ones we would be replacing.

I agree, but I'm fairly sure 5 years ago you'd be right there with Elmo (other than trying to execute each other for various disagreements in the extent of "rights.")

Five years ago I was five years younger.

Perhaps then there is hope for Elmo too.

I occasionally try and think back to try and remember if I was that angry and black/white in my thinking when I was that young. I think I was, but that was a long time ago and my memory is fuzzy and biased.

I don't think there should be violence against judges. It's barbaric.

Rynar I encourage you to not retreat from the truth of reality - it doesn't change it.

I am still waiting for an alternative action that has not proven to not work.

This is open to anyone.

I don't think murder works either, especially since hardly anyone supports it. Changing these sorts of things requires a large cultural shift, and currently too many people care about locking up pedophiles to not care about free speech.

They aren't elected officials. Firing would work as well as firing squad, terminating employment as well as termination of life.

It's been pretty well established that your system doesn't work.

This is how much people discuss pedos throughout the years. People care so much about the pedophile problem that they don't care about other rights.

How many times in the history of the world has violent uprising resulted in a government that respects the rights and liberties of the people. Our fathers got it right, or as right as anyone ever has. I dont think we get so blessed a second time. We end up like the French Revolution with a new set of despots.

I don't think the American Revolution changed individual liberties much. It was mostly about who gets to tax who. In fact, the United Kingdom criminalized slavery before we did.

And, in fact, England was already "democratic" with an elected parliament and a mostly powerless monarch at the time of the revolution. (of course, the colonies weren't getting any vote, hence part of the reason for the revolution.) America wasn't free because of some remarkable vision of its founding fathers. It was modeled very similarly on what it rebelled against.

Exactly. I bet the actual amount of "individual freedom" that a person in the U.S. had was about equivalent to what you'd have in the U.K. Unless of course you're slave in the U.S. So in total I rate the U.K. as more progressive.

When's the last time an army squad knocked on your door and demanded you cook them dinner?

Or you were arrested for what you write on this forum?

Or a police officer stormed into your house without a warrant found something illegal or arrested you for it.

Or you were forced to testify against yourself in court?
.

What makes you think all these things happened in the U.K.? Canada doesn't follow our Constitution, do you think life was/is so bad there?

History tells us they did in the colonies or at least it did when I was in school.

If the AWi didn't improve civil liberties and they were just as despotic as the brits then the answer to my question is likely never

We occupy homes in Iraq sometimes. It's not a big deal in times of war or civil unrest.

I am just saying that the American War most likely did not improve individual liberties on an empirical basis.
