There is an unintended consequence we haven't looked at yet. Homosexuals will have to "put up or shut up" when it comes to military service and support of our troops now. The old they don't support me I can't support them excuse is no longer valid. So far I haven't seen any lines outside the army recruiters office waiting for the signing.

What does "support the troops" really mean? I never understood. We implicitly do with tax dollars.

Joking aside for a second, I think Congress just gave Muslim terrorist organizations an early christmas present. This has got to be a great recruiting tool for them. I can read the recruiting posters now, "America is sending homosexuals to kill us!" The great satan and all that.

I would be shocked if they hadn't already been holding up homosexuality as an example of our wickedness. I both don't think this change gives them any real additional ammo, nor should we be making policy decisions based on what a terrorist organization might try and use as a recruiting tool.

While some are basking in the euphoria of this change, I am just pointing out that it's not going to be all roses and pink carnations. Our enemies will use this against us. There will be problems within the ranks because of this change. I expect gays in positions of authority within the military to show the same professionalism and restraint that gays in the catholic priesthood did.

But, enjoy your bliss while it lasts.

I expect there to be fewer problems within the ranks due to this, than there are caused by soldiers losing dedicated, valiant friends who have seen combat with them, just because someone finds a loveletter he received from a boyfriend.

Nothing will cure homophobia faster than being on the same side of a shooting match as your gay brother-in-arms.

I get called a homo when I pwn n00bs in Black Ops. If that's any indication of the acceptance of gays pwning fools, Al Qaeda will hate getting killed by real homosexuals a lot more than if it was a straight soldier. That's probably a better reason to allow it than any civil rights reasons.

While that may be true overall, I don't know, there has never been an altar boy molested by a straight priest.

Anyway, since we don't let children into the military, I don't think pedophilia is a significant issue for our troops.

Rates of pedophilia are much higher among priests than gays in general.

This is hard to judge in the Catholic church, as priests are supposed to be celebate, but I suspect most of the priests/reverends who have abused boys in protestant churches have been straight, and even married.

According to the APA, attraction to children is a third sexual orientation that is completely separate from an attraction to men or women. Gay and straight is totally irrelevant when talking about a pedophile. They are attracted to children.
