Very true! Only a prude would not want their daughter thinking it's ok to be gangbanged or sons thinking how hot it is to rape schoolgirls or watch girls having sex with animals.

Stupid puritans.

By similar logic, you would not want your son to think it's ok to run people over with vehicles or learn how much fun it is to shoot people in the head. If I ever have kids, they can watch or play whatever they want.

they can watch or play whatever they want?

Yeah, I don't see why not.

So, if they access your porn collection...fine by you? You just won't show it to them specifically .

Why would you need to collect it? I mean, it's not like internet porn is going anywhere.

I think what Lex is getting at is a little more like the idea of entrapment. There's a difference between passively allowing someone to do something on their own initiative vs. enticing them into it/pushing it onto them on your initiative.

Only with porn.

Trying to recreate this post as best I can.

In the process, ignoring the countless examples of perfectly healthy porn that's out there. We as a culture have been so programmed to believe that sex is bad, naughty, a sin, perverted or only for use as procreation that anything involving sex immediately is a negative. It's a sad sad commentary on our country actually.

Aizle, just curious again, what is healthy porn? I've watched porn and do think it is fine for adults that want to watch. I just remember watching R rated movies with my parents and feeling uncomfortable at certain points. I don't consider myself a prude, but I do consider certain things private. I really can't imagine watching porn with my parents, although watching it with my bf is a different story.

I dunno, would I feel differently if I had been raised in a nudist colony?

I view healthy porn as porn that doesn't demean any of the participants.

I also think that some folks here are confusing porn not being traumatizing with the idea that porn is "good" to show to children. In general, I don't go around introducting anyone to porn, much less children. The one psuedo-exception is that I do strongly advocate a thorough sex education program around the age of puberty. The best one that I've seen is the one I went through via my church, which not only included the boring technical stuff of how babies are made, etc. but also addressed the erotic and relationship aspects as well. Part of the program included a "porn" video made specifically for the class that was comprised of married couples demonstrating real sex and positions.

I have no idea who that quote was originally attributed to. I can only surmise that Aizle was quoting a post that was subsequently edited, because it doesn't seem to show up anywhere in this thread.

Well, I seriously screwed this up.

I sent Aizle a PM apologizing for the mis-edit and suggested he attempt to restore his post to what it originally was.

Sorry everyone (especially Aizle).

Heh, no worries Midgen. **** happens.

I'll have to see if I can remember what I posted, and will try and recreate it if I can.

As for your question Midgen. My definition there is pretty vague on purpose, because I really think that a lot of that stuff is in the eye of the beholder.

As long as those involved are consenting adults and having a good time, then I really don't see much wrong with most anything. Where things get murky is when their "likes" are the result of trauma or mental issues, but in the end if you get your kicks out of eating **** and you aren't doing yourself any real physical harm. Knock yourself out.

Lex raises an interesting question:
Is it proven that sheltering our children from exposure to sex until a certain age is necessary for their emotional wellbeing, or is this taboo merely a societal hangup?

I don't know the answer to that, I've never looked into it. Regardless, I am continuing to shelter my kids from sex for several more years. :P

I'm of the opinion that you let the child drive most of their early education. If they see or hear something and ask questions, give them real answers (put appropriately into terms they can understand based on age). I suspect that until they hit puberty, most kids will get bored and be un-interested in anything related to sex.

I just haven't seen evidence ever that children are actually harmed by viewing vulgar material. People prohibit it just to be safe, I guess.

You don't have to change it. I actually laughed. But damn, is Jimmy Wales a creeper.

It's been changed. Dynamically (don't worry, didn't hack anything! Just a python script).

Kids don't really understand anyway. There's no point in confusing them before they even have a clue what going on. However, there are places where you might see a breast or dong on regular TV on occasion uncensored. I don't think we need to vilify certain organs all the time. Not that I enjoy seeing dongs....
