How do I hate Thee? Let me count the ways....

1. I hate the Multitasker, who thinks that driving is a good time to use the phone, put on makeup, and eat a messy burger.

2. I loathe the Texter, who weaves all over the road trying to focus on making a witty message. (Yes, the Texter is in a class by itself and far worse than the Multitasker.)

3. I despise the Creeper, who thinks the front end of his car is at the dashboard, and has no clue that 4 feet of his long engine are sticking out in the road while he waits to turn. And he keeps oozing forward, making me swerve into the next lane to avoid hitting him.

4. I dislike the Crosser, who always pulls all the way to the left when making a left turn at a median. Just because you are turning, it does not mean you drive on the left side of the road. Get over to the right where you belong.

5. I abhor the Partyer, who thinks there is better living through chemistry.

These were my road companions this morning.

And now I get to drive 6 hours.

:(

Why do you hate it so much?

The Napper, swerving, dog tired, but getting where he is going is more important than getting there alive. Pull over and take a nap idiot. This is not a partier - just a fool in a hurry.

I'm confused by this one. I'm trying to visualize what you are saying and the only thing I come up with is that you are suggesting people making left hand turns need to be in the right lane. That makes no sense, so I'm assuming there is a typo in there somewhere, or I am completely missing something (which is entirely possible).

Picture this: I am driving down the main road, and there is a side street to the right. Instead of stoppping at the sign, the crosser lets the nose of his car stick out into the right lane of the main street.

Hmmm, that's how I pictured the Creeper.

I hate other drivers!! Period! Just get the hell out of my way while I go where I have to go...please!! No wonder I stay at home and don't go out most of the time unless I absolutely have to!! Most of the drivers around here don't even know how to use a turn signal correctly! :(

I almost crashed this morning. I pass through a rotary to work every day and almost always cars take a right here. But this woman decided to speed up when I tried to make this turn, and I had to brake to let her go by. Partially my fault tho.

Partially? You attempted to cut her off.

Not to mention, were turning right from the inside lane.

You have to keep in mind that 95% of the time on this rotary, cars in her position take a right. Also to clarify, taking a right is a double lane highway.

You have to keep in mind that it doesn't matter.

I assumed she was going to turn, but I carefully watched her movements the whole time in case not. So I only just barely turned to the right and then stopped when I realized she was going straight... still kinda scary though. I'm trying not to total my 3rd car.

She was continuing in a lane that is really for exiting, rather than continuing around the circle.

That's a minor concern, however. So, that said...

Did she have her turn signal on? If not, there should have been no assumption that she would turn.

Why did you exit from the inside lane? You should have been in the outside lane in order to exit.

Kudos to you for paying enough attention to not crash into her. Bad on you for your assumptions, and breaking the traffic rules to put yourself in the position in the first place.

I never knew you were supposed to be in the outside lane to take a right. I've seen many drivers take a right from the inside lane, so I assumed this was the norm. It's rare to see someone actually change lanes while in the rotary.

She didn't have her turn signal on, but it's quite common for people to not use it. Also it's difficult to see a turn signal through the mirror.

there, now it's fixed! :p

Lex,

In what fantasy world could it possibly be safe(r) to make a right turn from the left lane (of 2) ?

I'd be interested in seeing the lane markings and road signs for this traffic circle.

They've been called roundabouts longer than "Traffic Circles"

:p
