Done a la Tales of Monkey Island (which, BTW, I highly recommend picking up as well) also from Telltale Games -- i.e. in episodic releases.

Check it out here:
Back to the Future: The Game (probably available on Steam, as well)

Christopher Lloyd apparently does the voice of Doc Brown, and they got someone who sounds very much like Micheal J Fox for Marty.

Buying episode 1 now myself . . .

I think you mean, "a la Sam and Max."

It is on Steam. Watched my brother (who is an epic Back to the Future junkie) play through the first hour or so. Was entertaining, and relatively satisfyingly extrapolated.

That guy does a really impressive MJF impression. Adding the right "squeaks" in the right places in his voice, perfect.

Well this, too, but Telltale GAmes did a Monkey Island series the same way as BTTF.

Yes, it's virtually indistinguishable, IMO. All the voice actors I think got at least very close to the original live actors' voices.

Anyway, finished Ep1 last night, and gotta wait till friggin' Feb to get Ep2 :( But at least they start coming out in one-month intervals after that.

My point was, Sam and Max was Telltale Games' initial foray into the episodic adventure game. You call stuff a DOOM clone, not a Quake clone.

Sounds cool, if out of my reach for the time being.

I'm glad they got Christopher Lloyd to step back into the Doc's shoes. Replacing MJF is a forgivable sacrilage all things considered, but you can't do something like this without the real Doc.

Also I really like the idea of video games continuing movie story lines rather than replacing/ignoring them. I hope we see more of this trend.

I doubt it'll become all that common, though. Because if you go the "video game continues the movie story" route, you've painted yourself into a corner when it comes time to do the movie sequel.

The reason it works here is because the movie franchise is already long dead, with no real industry interest in another sequel.

Yeah, but surely that could be the case in other franchises too.

Oooh. I was thinking Sam & Max was LucasArts for some reason.

ROFL was browsing what games they had and came across this:

Sam & Max Hit the Road (and the aborted Sam & Max: Freelance Police) were LucasArts. When Freelance Police was cancelled, the license lapsed a year later and Telltale Games picked it up, as they were mostly ex-LucasArts adventure game developers anyways, many of whom worked on Freelance Police. They released Sam & Max Save the World in, like, 2006 or 2007.

They had a second episodic "season" of Sam & Max out before they postponed the third one to work on Tales of Monkey Island. The third one's out. I just don't remember the names for the second and third seasons, and am too lazy right now to look them up.

Well if you want to get really nerdy, DOOM and Quake were two separate and very much different engines. One was 2.5D and the other a true 3D engine.

Duke Nukem 3D and Dark Forces would be more in the realm of "DOOM Clone" where I don't think anyone would call Quake a DOOM Clone. But many of the first generation true 3D games were certainly more in the realm of "Quake clone" than a "DOOM clone."

:D

Dark Forces was 3D. It had maps with multiple valid z coordinate options per x,y position.

The point, though, is that even with something arguably major like that, the term remained DOOM clone because DOOM was the first major FPS.

Does the cost cover ALL episodes or are they long enough to really support the $25 cost per episode?

For BTTF it's $25 per episode.

I didn't time my playthrough, but I gathered it to be about 4 hours (that includes being stumped time, and time to explore the scenery and dialogue trees).

I suppose if you really knew what you were doing and just blasted through the game, you could complete it in a couple hours. The game is really well-done, tho, so I suppose part of the price is "in the craft" if you will.

If that sounds like it's worth the price tag, then I say pick it up.

4 hours of playtime is not worth $25 to me as cool as it sounds...

I'm hoping that it will eventually come down in price.

When the whole season is released, they bundle at a discount.

That said, BttF is a higher price point. Probably attributable to Christopher Lloyd, Zemekis, and the license. I think Sam & Max is like $12 a piece.

Yeah, pretty much this.

Man, if only there was a way to go forward in time to when the rest of the games are out . . .
