I don't think Colin Farrell should be remaking one of Arnie's movies.

Not a chance.

Len Wiseman’s upcoming remake of ‘Total Recall’ has been set to start shooting at the new Pinewood Toronto Studios in Canada, Comingsoon.net is reporting. In an effort to attract more big-budget films to the city, the Infrastructure Ontario agency, in conjunction with Build Toronto, has already secured the reboot. The movie, with an estimated budget of $200 million, will be the largest-budget project to ever be filmed in Toronto. Columbia Pictures, which is distributing ‘Total Recall,’ has already signed the deal with Pinewood Toronto. No actors have been confirmed to be starring in the project yet. However, Variety is reporting that the studio has offered the role of Douglas Quaid/Hauser, which [...] »

Let's do a movie of The Man in the High Castle before we start remaking any movies based off of Philip K. Dick's books.

Interesting, Kurt Wimmer is doing the screenplay. I'll reserve judgement until I see it. It certainly wouldn't be difficult to make a better acted film than anything Arnie's done.

He may have not been the best actor(he wasn't horrible, but...) but he brings charisma that very few actors possess. It's really, really difficult not to enjoy his acting because of this charisma.

Also, total recall is VERY open to interpretation. After all, it's based on short story. They could make a very different film than the previous version, and that would be fine too. Although, obviously they'll have to do an updated CGI version of the 3-boob chick.

Total Recall was 'inspired' by Philip K. Dick's "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale." Not even close enough to be 'based' on. IIRC, the protagonist in the short story would have been better played by Woody Allen than Arnie.

Oh I don't disagree, I enjoy most all of Arnie's movies. But I also understand them for what they are. My expectations of this reboot are that we'll see a very different movie, one that probably emphasizes the suspense and drama aspects of the story instead of Arnold's muscles.

True, but would it be more *memorable*? Part of Arnie's charm is that he stands out from other actors.

"Git yoh *** to Mahs. Git yoh *** to Mahs. Git yoh *** to Mahs."

Just wouldn't be the same.

I agree it will be a different film. But since I've seen(and love) the original, it's going to be hard for me personally to not compare them. It could be a fantastic movie, but there's a good chance I just won't feel it because of the original.

Hmm.

If they are making a new movie based on the book, and not based on the previous movie, perhaps there's a call for this. Compare Blade Runner to Total Recall, and one realizes that it's possible the last movie, while certainly fun, didn't capture the spirit of the story all that well.

On the other hand, when one looks at other attempts to turn Philip K. Dick books into serious movies, you have some crap like Minority Report, or Paycheck. There are more ways this can end badly than ways it can end well.

Same here. I always confuse the two. They're basically just both non-entities, in my mind.

Kind of like the main character in The Running Man.

I can't see Woody Allen playing the character from the story. No way he takes a plan and crashes it into a building. Maybe a younger Mel Gibson or Ed Norton...yea. One is crazy, the other plays it very well.

NECROOOOOOOOO

You guys should see this movie, it's a pretty good action flick. It's (disappointingly) not on Mars, but whatever. I think it's better than the original truth be told.

No movie that does not have a woman with three titties can ever be better than Total Recall.

She's in this one, in three-titty-HD. Although her existence doesn't really make sense, you know, due to the whole 'not Mars' thing. Whatever. It's the future. There must be awesome new tech to add as many titties as you want.

I expect to like this movie more than the original, probably because it looks smarter than the original. I think the original is fine, but it's really just a dumb Verhoeven action flick (which is fine, because that's what he's good at).

I really doubt the new one will be as quote-able as the original though.

Oh yeah, totally forgot to mention I saw this a couple of weeks ago, and loved it.

After watching, I finally got around to reading the short story. This was closer to the source material than the original Total Recall, while still being more 'inspired by' than 'based on'. Also, Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel - honestly, what's not to like?
