I have never eaten there before today...

For the sake of my weight and blood sugar; I think it will be a very, very infrequent but yummy stop.

And their "Devil's Spit" BBQ sauce is awesome!!

Famous Dave's is awesome (their sauces pwn your face).

Ours went under in favor of some place called Almost Heaven, and let me tell ya -- it ain't anywhere near heaven. The employees, menu and sauces are the same, but the food quality has just slid big time (they overcook the ribs). Last time we were there, my whole immediate family ended up having gastro-intestinal distress.

I haven't been overly impressed with FD. Their food seemed fairly dried out, and the service was lousy.

I went to FD's before I had any clue at what good BBQ was. I liked it but I'm not sure I would now; I'm usually disappointed by BBQ chains. Texas Roadhouse is pretty awful.

I've always found Famous Dave's to be pretty decent BBQ. But I also like St. Louis style BBQ. And their sauces are quite yummy.

I recall being so disappointed when I moved to Texas and was subjected to the shoe leather they call BBQ down there.

Famous Dave's is pretty good IMO as far as BBQ goes. Not Arthur Bryant's or Jack Stack's good, but good.

Their Ribs are actually their best item, IMO, followed by the beefbrisket or man handler sandwich.

Famous Dave's has the best **** corn bread ever. I could go there and just order a **** ton of corn bread. The BBQ is alright, but nothing to write home about...but the corn bread...good lord.

I actually went to Famous Dave's randomly the day of the OP without having seen the post. Service was so bad and the food was nothing special, I will not be going back.

Sad really how far FD's has fallen. They used to be one of the best BBQ places in the area.

We have a non-chain BBQ place near my bf's. I like the brisket. Unfortunately, they were sold and the new owners discontinued the awesome mustard sauce they had. (I'm not a fan of most BBQ sauces.) Apparently, the mustard sauce had many fans, as they keep getting asked for it. Hope they bring it back, as they got all of the recipes from the old owners. Or I just start making my own.

I heard today at work that the reason they shut down my local Famous Dave's was due to sexual harassment of some of its employees. So it had to change its name and management.

Pervs they may have been, but man their food quality was much better.

Famous Dave's is by far one of my favorite dining spots. I have known several people who have said "I've eaten there and wasn't impressed" only to take them there personally and have them say "You're right! Wow, I must have ordered the wrong thing or it was just a bad day."

Things to try there that gets the Official Numbuk Seal of Ogre Approving Goodness:

- The Brisket. If it's really dry and tough, then you are not meeting it on it's average day (it can happen, but I'd say it's more of a 1 out 10 chance for me). When you meet it normally, it is supple enough to be cut with a spoon. Excellente.

- The Country Roasted Chicken (not to be confused with the "BBQ Chicken"). I have never met a more flavorful chicken in my life. There is flavor in this sucker, even in the dead-center of the breast. Speaking of which, I strongly recommend asking your server, "Can I get the breast portion?" If not, you will get whatever random pieces they have. 100% of the time they are more than happy to oblige.

- Sausage Links. My wife loves these. They have a good spicy kick. For some reason, they are even more spicy (and even better) when re-heated as leftovers. I don't know why.

- Last but not certainly least, the "Smoked Salmon Spread" appetizer. Trust me, it's worth every penny. It's hard to describe, but it's very yummy. You get some flatbread that has been quickly and gently seared on a grill and the spread itself has chunks of smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers, and a rich and smoky flavor that is just.... heaven.



I have been told that Famous Dave's isn't authentic barbecue (though they do smoke their meats for at least 12 - 24 hours). I have eaten many "authentic barbecue" all over the place. If Famous Dave's isn't authentic, then label me a "Fake BBQ lovin' man."

BBQ is one of those institutions that garners the fiercest of pride. Sadly, for many, anything that falls outside of their preference = not authentic/unworthy.

I have a friend from South Carolina, who, for all the hate he has for his home state, considers South Carolina style BBQ to be the only true BBQ. He insists on putting coleslaw on top of his BBQ pulled pork.

Hmm, maybe I'll make it down south (small town outside Fresno) this summer just to eat BBQ with him.

Pulled pork barbecue is one of the recipes next up on my cooking list. Been experimenting with vinegar-based sauces lately with just ground beef.

I wanted to type more about that but my mouth started to water thinking about what exactly to add so I am just gonna stop now. :(
