Saw the previews..i think it looks entertaining. I usually make my movie choices based on the "Farsky movie recommendation".

I think we should have a sticky with his movie reviews!

Except when he's wrong. There are a couple things we feud about because he's blatantly wrong. =P

So we have a separate Glade Forum where FarSky and Kaffis become Siskel and Ebert.

IIRC, I thought that FarSky likes 2001: A Space Odyssey, which most reasonable people know is long and boring.

That depends entirely on what you've taken prior to watching and how much of that substance.

Saw a different preview when I took the wife to see the new Narnia movie, and somehow they made it look even more stupid.

2001 at the top? Yeah I've a differing opinion of that too. Unless they mean "Top Science Fiction Movies Used to Help Insomniacs Fall Asleep." When it takes 5 minutes for a spaceship to dock *while you are fast-forwarding* you know there's a problem.

I find that older movies always have inflated ratings. I think old people just have nostalgia for them and then manage to convince everyone else that they're really good.

That list seems a little haphazard. I can understand Bladerunner and Empire Strikes Back (although i wouldn't put ESB quite that high on a list of great sci-fi movies anymore--there are others that are far better). But 2001 was rather boring, and E.T. wasn't exactly wonderful, either.

Best science fiction in my opinion:

Empire Strikes Back
Terminator
Terminator 2
The Matrix
Serenity

I don't think I can. Sure, it has better special effects, but when Arnold says "**** you, *******" I die laughing every time.

The issue is that 2001 was not filmed for TV audiences. It was filmed for movie audiences. Specifically 70mm movie audiences. It is a visual film that is meant to be seen on a huge scale. You lose much of the power of the film by seeing it on a (relatively) small screen of a television.

they generally give points for how such films influence future films.
2001 was one of the first realistic sci-fi films. Blade Runner visually lead the way for so many other films. Even ET spawned so many derviative films....

It is perfect for the theater. It would give families with lots of kids at least 30 minutes of leeway to stumble into the theater late without missing anything.

;-)

Blade Runner is still the best Future Noir movie ever made. (They need to make more in the genre.)

When Blade Runner came out, my parents wouldn't let me see it with them. I was bummed out. I still haven't seen it.

That was probably a good thing. Bladerunner came out in 1982 when I was only 8 years old. I didn't see it in the theater either. I don't think you were born at the time. It was legitimately rated R. I won't let my kids watch it for a while yet.

But you really should watch it now.

I agree with this 100%. I really love the genre. Almost as much as I love the zombie genre.
