Stop right there. There is no argument when it comes to things like Death Panels, and Kenyan birth certificates, Obama's legitimacy as president or pulling the plug on grandma. We can discuss rationally the pros and cons of our current health care, proposals to reform it, or leave it as it is - but the second people start dragging in the BS, that has to be done away with. I don't want to pre determine the argument, I want to dismiss the paranoid delusional bullshit that get tossed about as "fact" here.

1. No one here has ever posted anything about "death panels".

2. The only thing ever said about "Kenyan birth certificates" was that some Kenyan officials claimed one existed (which is a fact). No one has ever made any mention or argument as to the veracity, reality, or applicability of those documents.

3. It doesn't matter who the President is. Wanting a Court definition that separates"natural born" and "statutory" citizenship and an answer to certain issues of retrospective law is neither crazy nor conspiratorial. It's simply seeking clarification on sticky matters of law.

So, no, no one here does the things you keep attributing to them. People disagree with you. People dislike many of your political and social opinions. People strongly dislike your posting behavior. But no one here has ever made the kinds of post you keep suggesting.

Clarification before someone misreads this. The fact is that Kenyan officials made such a claim, not that such a certificate exists.

In what is undoubtedly a vain attempt to actually get this thread back on topic, I just watched Obama's speech for the school kids.

I found it to be quite excellent. Well written and a good message to send.

I still disagree with some of specifics of the speech, but come back to the comment I gave LK earlier... its unlikely the items from the speech with which I object will be noticed, much less realized, from the majority of the audience for which it was delivered (but not necessarily intended). Even more so given his speech patterns and peoples tendency to have less comprehension with spoken rather than written statements.

Mostly at this point though, I'm amused by the reversal of position by specific groups based upon the party of the presenter when the message is similiar.

I disagree. It was unnecessarily political and overtly encumbered by current policy battles.

Once you become enlightened, you will realize that this is just the hateful, racist and intolerant bigot within you saying this.

Don't forget "southern." As an adjective, it helps amplify and reinforce the hatred, racism, and bigotry.

Dirty southerners. :P

You haven't planted any that I've seen. Really, consider a fence for next year. I want tomatos at least.

Tomatos are growing just fine near the compost pile.

I saw it too, and it was good stuff. His speech tonight to congress was excellent as well.

CBS Transcript of Last Night's Speech

Obama wrote:
As any American who is still looking for work or a way to pay their bills will tell you, we are by no means out of the woods. A full and vibrant recovery is still many months away. And I will not let up until those Americans who seek jobs can find them -- (applause) -- until those businesses that seek capital and credit can thrive; until all responsible homeowners can stay in their homes. That is our ultimate goal. But thanks to the bold and decisive action we've taken since January, I can stand here with confidence and say that we have pulled this economy back from the brink. (Applause.)
The economy is not in recovery; it has not "pulled ... back from the brink;" rather, the President is relying on all sorts of immaterial indicators and false green shoots to legitimate poor fiscal policy and unsound spending. The "growth" numbers we're seeing have more to do with inventory creation and production ramp ups that happen every fall in preparation for the Consumer Spending in the 4th Quarter. More importantly, the weak dollar and rising inflation actually obscures some of the real value lost in terms of investments and other sustainable wealth generation. So, why should his speech be considered great when the man opens with an outright lie? If he has to misrepresent his policies, their impact, and the reality of the economic situation as a lead up to healthcare, why should I listen?

The rest of his speech was just misdirecting bullshit. After all, this reform won't cost Americans a dime. At least, Obama thinks he can give us a free lunch on the matter.

Why am I not surprised? The speech last night was excellent. He took the liars to task, which was nice to see. I would have much preferred to see a stronger endorsement of a public insurance option, but I still think we will see one in the final bill. Time will tell.

Montegue:

Considering I counted no less than 15 gross misstatements and outright lies in his speech, things that tow a party-line instead of adhere to reality, I guess you're not surprised because it looks like the "diarists" at DailyKOS and the "bloggers" at the Huffington Post wrote it. Of course, I pretty much dismissed anything after he started claiming financial policy success for his disastrous fiscal habits. The man opened with a lied and never stopped to tell the truth last night.

It was a good speech in terms of rhetoric; it was a horrendous speech is terms of reality.

Well, what constitutes a lie in your book doesn't always pan out in reality. I think you were looking through your hate-colored glasses again, Khross. It was a fantastic speech in terms of reality, but your reality doesn't always mesh with actual reality. You still refuse to believe that humans are responsible for our warming trend, so your credibility on reality and fact is pretty thin.
