Following this. Conflicting reports abound and things change on a regular basis (She's shot, then she's dead, then she's alive in critical condition and in surgery...) as one might expect at this point. Best wishes to her and her family, plus others who have been injured or killed there.

Died in surgery at the latest unsubstantiated report. Gunman survived, but he'll never breathe free air again.

Conflicting reports of Giffords' status. Some say dead, some say grave condition. Right-wingers' immediate assumption is that it was Mexican-related, left-wingers' assume unhinged Tea Partier. Lots of unsubstantiated stuff flying around.

First news reports I read alluded to an execution style killing, ie one gunman walking up and shooting her in the head. As the story unfolded details have become clearer. I still haven't gotten a clear word on who did the shooting. Doesn't help things that Palin had put a crosshair on her location on that infamous map of hers.

A federal judge is also reported to be one of the dead.

Everyone has different line in the sand, and the farther the government (left and right) pushes, the more common this sort of thing is going to become.

Is it tragic? Absolutely.

Do I advocate it? Absolutely not.

But it becomes an unfortunate reality when people are bullied, lose everything (or atleast what they consider to be "everything"), and have a legitimate claim against those who caused that loss (or who support policy which caused the loss). We can all sit back and condem this, but the reality is that you reap what you sow; and American government has been sowing this for some time now. It would be foolish for those in power to blindly condem this without thinking about what it really represents.

My prayers go out to the families of the fallen.

You have my sympathies guys. I am very grateful our political dialogue has yet to get to the state the loons latch on to it like this.
