The Wii remote and Kinect have a solid place in the future of gaming, whether people like it or not. The PS2. Could be just because we buy crappy games, never wanting to drop $50 on a game, and the PS2 came with a few quality ones. But I think she likes the buttons better, I dunno. I just found it interesting.

Coren, you must have some kind of blinders on. I KNOW that I can't be the only person remembering Sony execs stating that they didn't think motion controls were going to work, or that they were important to the consumer. Once they saw the amazing success of the Wii, they very quickly changed their tune.

So we're not considering the "Sixaxis" to be motion controls then? I remember how they told us they just HAD to drop vibrate because it destroyed their oh so amazing sixaxis technology (a bold lie, but still, they said it!)

I think the Six Axis was more or less a desperate bullet point to try and counter the media hype, and not one particularly supported once they realized just buttons and analog sticks work better. :p

Though I actually really enjoyed their use on my first playthrough of Lair (before I finished it in like 5 hours, tried to play through again at which point the excitement had dissipated enough to see how crappy a game it actually was.)

The last three Androids I have had have Haptic Feedback. But I highly recommend avoiding the Samsung Intercept or the Samsung Moment.

I gotta say also that my PS3 seems to take forever to perform system updates. 360 always seems to be done in a minute. PS3 last night took 20 minutes to do a system update. I was furious by the end.

I always wondered if it was because they were re-writing other code besides just what was being patched in (or out).

Maybe it's just due to the architecture?

Yeah, it's annoying as hell. To the point that I put off system updates for the PS3 as long as f'ing possible.

Relevant note:
Little Big Planet, if you bought the original and didn't turn it on today, would install 17 updates before you could play its current version.

Literally, the worst thing about my first PS3 dying was the fact I'd have to update everything again.

They can't just code one update that brings you up to the current version, like just about every software developer does with their patches?

Nope, and I think it must be how the PS3 architecture is designed, because every game does that. Instead of one large all-encompassing patch, you get a ton of separate files.

Usually if there's data conversion involved, developers will force every in-between update to make the jump to the most recent so they don't have to write 5 different conversion programs for every new revision. Then again, Sony isn't exactly patching databases so I don't know what their excuse is.
