Astrological Changes For 2011, Ophiuchus Is New Zodiac Sign
January 14, 2011
By James Lane
Our scientist are personally trying to annoy me now!
In 2006 the International Astronomical Union (IAU) declassified Pluto as a planet since its mass was only 0.07 times that of the mass of the other objects in its orbit (Earth’s mass, by contrast, is 1.7 million times the remaining mass in its own orbit).
Now I wake up this morning to find out that some frozen eggheads in Minnesota are claiming that I’m no longer a Taurus, but an Aries. James is getting angry now!
Long story short, according to Minnesota Planetarium Society board member Parke Kunkle the signs of the zodiac have changed because the gravitational force of the Moon has managed to tilt the planet’s axis a bit since the Babylonians determined the dates of the Zodiac five thousand years ago.
It is also learned that not only the way you read horoscope has changed, and they claim to have also discovered that there may be a 13th Zodiac sign called Ophiuchus.
However, Parke Kunkle’s discovery only addresses sidereal zodiac, that is based on constellations. Therefore this change only concerns people in the East. Westerners adhere to tropical zodiac that is fixed to seasons (equinox to equinox). In conclusion, your zodiac sign has not changed.
Yeah, it’s all pretty confusing (the reason for my sub-headline on this article).
For your reference, the following is the list of proposed changes based on yesterday’s findings:
Capricorn: Jan. 20 – Feb. 16
Aquarius: Feb. 16 – March 11
Pisces: March 11- April 18
Aries: April 18 – May 13
Taurus: May 13 – June 21
Gemini: June 21 – July 20
Cancer: July 20 – Aug. 10
Leo: Aug. 10 – Sept. 16
Virgo: Sept. 16 – Oct. 30
Libra: Oct. 30 – Nov. 23
Scorpio: Nov. 23 – Nov. 29
Ophiuchus: Nov. 29 – Dec. 17
Sagittarius: Dec. 17 – Jan. 20
In closing, I’m pretty sure I can’t be the only bothered by this, so please feel free to share your thoughts about this article by posting a comment in the section below. Thank you.

LMAO. See that is where I got lucky... my Taurus symbol is not just my (apparently former) zodiac symbol, but it is really how I have acted all my life. Even before I knew what the zodiac signs were...

So, if I am no longer a Taurus... I am still stubborn like a bull, so it still fits.

If it's any consolation, this would have been discovered decades ago, except that there was real science to be done. It's just taken until now for people to get bored enough to fiddle around with the zodiac.

I think the primitive Aztecs were more savvy about this stuff than most people interested in Astrology.

Or maybe some reporters are idiots and there's no change.

I was sort of hoping that my sign would change to Aries like all those articles are suggesting so that I could pretend that my sign is actually Ares, the God of War. I kinda like that.

I'll take the bull over the goat any day though.

I don't know how the zodiac works at all (nor do I really care), but it seems to me that your sign should be based on the relationship of the sun the those constellations on the day you were born.

Capricorn
Quote:

Almost all the Capricorn women have immaculate etiquettes. They have an inherent sense of social elegance, modesty and conventional look. Though she looks completely calm, composed and balanced, don't think she doesn't have mood swings. She can become really depressed if she thinks that someone has misjudged or ill-treated her. In such a case, she may brood for months at a time. This stems from the fact that she does not feel as secure as she seems to be and fears being ridiculed or laughed at.

It is advisable not to tease a Capricorn girl; she may take it too literally. Though she may pretend otherwise, she seeks as much compliments as the other girls, probably even more. Show her that you appreciate her and make her feel secure. It will help her in opening up and showing her deliberately controlled passion. A Capricorn girl's personality doesn't include the trait of wishful thinking. She sees only those dreams that can be converted into reality. She enters a boat only when she knows that the waters are safe.

Saggitarius
Quote:
Don't be fooled by them. Look deep inside a Sagittarius female and you will find a woman who is so enthusiastic about life and who trusts easily. Infact, this extreme belief makes her heart vulnerable and defenseless. It gets broken too often, but then, she knows how to move on with life. You will be tempted to care for her. It's natural. There are hardly any people who can resist the bright and charming disposition of a Sagittarius girl. She will not be too good with money and will most probably be on the extravagant side.

She is very sentimental and emotional, though it seems otherwise. It just that, where her feelings are concerned, she becomes too shy. After marriage, your house will always remain sparkling clean, even if you don't have a maid to do that. She cannot stand sloppiness, it doesn't appeal to her sensibilities. She may not be too good at cooking, but she will also not burn your egg every day. A Sagittarian girl may pass the most sarcastic comments when she is angry, but she will forget the resentment soon enough. Then, she won't understand why are you so upset.

hmmm I will always be more capricorn, glad the change is wrong

Penny: I'm a Sagittarius which probably tells you way more than you need to know...
Sheldon: Yes... it tells us that you participate in the mass cultural delusion that the sun's apparent position relevant to arbitrarily defined constellations at the time of your birth somehow affects your personality.

By the way if you're religious then it's pretty hypocritical to make fun of astrology (not saying this to anyone in particular).

The Ares you're thinking of doesn't spell his name with an "i" in any writing I'm aware of. He also has a different set of celestial objects associated with him:

That cat's face is really freaking me out, now. It's like some kin of partial morph with a human face or something. It's strange.

This was mentioned in my 1993 Astrophysics 211 class. this isn't 'new' but no one in the field gave a damn enough to actually point it out.

I don't believe in astrology, but I do dig the beliefs of cultures and people based on stuff like this. I was pleasantly surprised to learn of this "radical change." Based on what my astrological sign was before, it never really quite jived with me. Turns out I was an Ophiucus this whole time. Which is interesting because I was also born in the Chinese "Year of the Snake."

Fun stuff.

I do feel a little bad for the millions of people who refuse to accept this change though. I know several already.
