I believe the main plot was better in the first game. However, I find that the characters and crew and dialogue and missions are better in the second game. Overall, this leaves the second game somewhat more enjoyable for me.

Also, no F*#King elevators.

I understand, disguising the load times, it was entertaining for a bit, but after a couple rides, they FEEL 10x as long as just staring at the nice tech-load screens in ME2.

I actually felt the story in the first one was better as well...but the writing and gameplay in ME2 was a lot better in Mass Effect 2.

The game controlled tighter in the second one for sure. I liked the leveling up system and the infinite ammo from the first one though.

I can say that I honestly never once ran out of ammo, even on insane(or insanity, I don't remember what the hardest difficulty was). Also, each individual level didn't have as much of an impact as ME2 levels.

I'm not talking about running out of ammo on all guns. But there's no way you can snipe non-stop without having to break cover and run for clips on Insanity.

I agree. That's why I turned off limited ammo when I played.
(Yet another reason PC>Console.)

Seriously, I'd rather carry another couple dozen clips for my favorite weapon, than another weapon and clips for it. I believe that the ammunition change was solely to make players move out of their comfort zone. (For instance, given enough ammo, I'll either pick a nice spot and snipe away until everything is dead, or pull out an assault rifle or SMG and spray bullets at something until it dies.)

I guess I like a more tactical feel when I play. Knowing which weapons to use and when.

There is never a wrong time to snipe.

I beg to differ. All it takes is one Krogan beating on you with his fists and you have a wrong time to snipe.

I'm a bit disappointed that "shotgun to the face" is not as broadly useful in this installment.

It's plenty effective used against you though. :)

That's why you snipe *before* that. ;)

I'm about 1/2 way through the first one now. I'm playing as a Soldier as opposed to a Vanguard so that's skewing my perception of the game too. Overall it's a great game, period. The story, dialogue and background are great. I really like the Mako tank, a fun little way to get around and blow stuff up. No clips is both good and bad, overall I'd say I prefer the no clips but only slightly. I miss heavy weapons but the assault rifle is pretty beastly. I also am making a lot of use of the sniper rifle, in ME2 I didnt use it at all. Mostly due to my class. Leveling up system is good, inventory system is horrible. Way too much crap to sift through and try and outfit each person is a PITA. I like ME2's system better, as well as the implementation of researching the tech. I would like to see them bring back sloting the armor and weapons. I liked that.

TOO many elevators.

Also less epic in way you form your team.

Overall ME2 is better, but ME is a lot of fun. Now I need to decide on who to get it on with, Ash or Liara.

If you pick Liara, then import your character and play ME2 again, Lair of the Shadowbroker DLC is so much more fun.

Also, Ash is a xenophobe.

I went with and stuck with Ashley, since the story was really geared toward a romance with her. Male soldier with Ashley romance is how the writers based their story to Mass Effect.

With Lair of the Shadowbroker, I would say that Liara is their choice, really. Especially since either male or female Shepard can romance her.

Yes, Liara appears to have been the lasting choice, since you have a definite falling out with Ashley/Kaiden.

But Lair is an add-on pack, the default game has Kaiden/Ashley already written in.

Besides, KAiden/Ashley supposedly return in ME3.

Just because it is an add on doesn't mean it isn't canon. Liara is in the base ME2 game as well and you totally suck face with her if you import a save with her romance active(it doesn't matter if it is the most awkward kiss I've ever seen in my entire life, nor does it matter that you can apparently make out through a closed helmet).

The default game has more of Liara than it does of Kaiden/Ashley. And in fact, she is the only reason Shepard is still alive again. And when you add Lair, Liara takes on an EXTREMELY important role in what is to come.
With Ash, I actively dislike her. Conversations with her make me feel like going renegade. Funny thing is, she'd have fit in well with Cerberus.

If it makes you feel any better, she was originally intended to swing both ways, but it was cut. I'm not really sure why it was cut, but...I think Jacob was supposed to go both ways, too. But maybe it was Thane. I don't remember.

Mass Effect 2 got a lot more entertaining once I got Garrus back. Watching him **** up Harkin was pure gold.
