As a civil engineer, I have to tell you - good dirt is extremely valuable.

Human labor is the only thing that has value, absolutely everything else is designed to facilitate folks exchanging whatever value they feel their labor is worth for whatever they desire.

If those other things did not have inherent value, a natural economic structure built around exchanging labor for those things never would have materialized.
